Music stopping during playback at varying times

Postby jared68 » Tue Sep 07, 2010 4:12 pm

Hi,

I am having help determining what is causing certain songs to stop playback. Various songs will stop playback at different times of the song. anywhere from 15 seconds to 1:30 into the song.

Is there a log that I can check to give possible clues as to what could be causing this? It is frustrating in that songs in a same directory will play fine, and in some cases replaying the same song will allow it to be played in its entirety.

Subsonic is currently running on Win XP 32 bit. All the songs are in mp3 format that know are good files that will play locally (having been organized and managed with a painstaking personal project with media monkey)

Thanks

I'm having this problem as well - it's really annoying because there's no rhyme or reason to it - random points in songs, except that it's ALWAYS stopping play at the SAME spot on a song. For instance - I have a Deep Dish song that ALWAYS stops play at 0:54 into playing. Another Deep Dish song goes as far as 1:32 and stops playing, but ALWAYS stops playing at that point on that particular song. If I skip past it the stopping point manually it continues the rest of the song.

I'm running Win 7 x64 Enterprise.

Seeing the same problem myself, but I've only really used it at work so I though it might be something else until seeing your posts.

The server is Ubuntu 8.04 x64 broadcasting on port 44040 which is being forwarded by my tomato router running the current version over a comcast connection. There are several other websites running on this server as well and quite a number of applications, but the memory and CPU load are always well below max. The server is headless and stays up except for updates every 3 or 4 months. Subsonic version is 4.1 (build 1806).

My machine at the office is Win7 32bit and I have had the same issue in IE 8, FF 3.6 and FF 4 beta 6. The files are both mp3 and ogg that I have experienced the stopping on. There are also no errors showing in the log that I can see.

I have also noted that although they will stop consistently at the same time in the same browser, they will stop at different times in another browser. I also have no problems on the android subsonic as it plays without flaw. In my educated guess, the problem lies in the web player itself. Let me know if there is any additional details I can provide.

corrupted data in mp3s

Postby tygern8r » Wed Dec 15, 2010 4:34 pm

I had the same problem. The same songs would play fine in VLC, iTunes, or Amarok. I attribute this to those players having some sort of error correction ability that Subsonic does not.

Long story short, my mp3s were corrupted. I used MP3 Scan and Repair, a free utility for Mac, and it found issues with all my problem mp3s - errors like "file is truncated or there is garbage at the end" or "wrong number of MPEG data bytes specified in Xing header".

Once the files were repaired and replaced on the server, I restarted Subsonic and all the songs play as they should - no skipping or stopping.
