Playing music on a different system through stream

Postby Fooneen » Fri Oct 22, 2010 1:09 pm

Hi,

I'm new to this program and am thinking of installing it on my server, and use it in my network.
Problem is that I'm running a W2k8 server which will be hosting Subsonic, but the music needs to be played in my living room. There's a mediaplayer there which can use streams to play music from.

My question now is, can I edit playlists from another computer, ie my laptop, and then let the server play the songs in the just created playlist, which are then picked up from a stream by the mediaplayer? Server only has a network connection to the mediaplayer, no audio output or anything. Is this possible using subsonic?

End effect is then to edit playlists on my laptop which then are played by the stereo set in my living room. Even better would be admin from my Android phone but thats probably a bit pushing it.

I think what you want to do is use Jukebox mode. This is found under settings>users. Create a user and make sure that jukebox mode is checked. This will allow you to contol your server through your laptop.

Jukebox mode on Android has been suggested as a new feature but it hasn't been implemented into the android client yet.

Thanks, much appreciated for the answer.
The only thing I'm still not clear about is if the jukebox mode can send a stream to another place, ie mediaplayer, because I read that jukebox mode uses the servers audio hardware. My server has none so it needs to stream to a standalone mediaplayer to be able to use it.

Is this also possible?
