Streaming not Downloading

is there a setting where i can change that my phone downloads the music files directly to just streaming from my server? i don't want all the music to be stored on my phone directly and i was wondering if there was some sort of setting i cant seem to find.

the songs i play through my server onto my phone are saved directly to my phone. so i can play the songs on my phone's media player.

is there a way to set that my phone doesn't download the files and just plays them through my server streaming the files?

What type of phone - Iphone, Android, which Android version, etc.

android and i am running 2.2 os

I don't believe there is a setting to disable caching completely, mostly because it didn't work very well streaming only. You could set the cache size to something small if space is an issue, plus you can tell it to only cache a few songs ahead.
