Remove All Folders Category

Hello again sindre_mehus,

I use Subsonic everyday and its almost perfect. I have one small request. I just added yet another music collection with around 1100 folders (each an album). Subsonic default opens with the “All Folders” category which is now an enormous list. Can you make an option to default the opening category to the first music folder? This would keep the side bar list size down and could increase startup speed. If I can do this in the code by changing a file, that would be great for now (until the next version).

My Search index file is about 19 MB and I had to increase the Java Heap because I was getting the following error on the side bar.

Hi kapz,

The next version has a new feature which I think will solve this problem for you: the music folder you select in the left frame is remembered by Subsonic, also across sessions and across browsers.

In the mean time, if you like to hack it, the file to modify is: TOMCAT_HOME\webapps\subsonic\WEB-INF\jsp\left.jsp

That would be a nice feature. The problem is that "All Folders" is such a huge list now I'd rather the user never select it. I have no experience with jsp pages. I mainly code in VB.NET/C#, but I can look into hacking when I get time.

A checkbox above the Music Folders settings to remove "All folders" selection (unchecked by default) would be ideal. This way Subsonic will behave as users have expected with “All Folders” at the top of the list. If checked, the list defaults to filling folders for the first music path initially.

You could go another step farther and add small dropdown list (filled with from 1 to total music paths) next to each music path in settings\Music Folders. This would be the order the folders are listed in the left.jsp dropdown. I wanted to bring up this because if I have 15 folders added in such a way where they are grouped sort of by genre. And I want to insert a new path; I must move each path below it down (saving each one) to keep the list ordered.
