Hide alternate formats of each album

Postby spookybathtub » Thu Oct 07, 2010 7:19 am

Hi. I have a situation, which I figure might be fairly common. When I rip CD's to upload to What.CD (or similar), I create multiple versions, usually FLAC and MP3. My seedbox is the same computer which I use for Subsonic. So I would like Subsonic to notice when I have identical copies of an album in 2 different formats, and ignore (hide) one of them. Is this possible, or should I move to the feature request forum?

Good to see a fellow whatter using subsonic.

There is kind of a way to do this as long as you only have one mp3 version like a V0 and FLAC formats of the songs. If you have more that one mp3 version of the songs like a V0, V2, 320 than this won't work.

To do this we need to utilize Subsonic's built in extension filtering. This is found under Settings>General>Music Mask. If you want to filter out the FLAC files then you just need to delete flac from this line and then update your music index and the files won't show up in subsonic anymore. The folder will still show up and if you have cover art or anything it will still be displayed in the folder but the FLAC files will no longer be available to subsonic.

Thanks kermit. That is certainly an improvement. However, it's still annoying to see all those empty folder in the list, especially when browsing on my small iPhone screen with SubStream. Any other ideas?

As far as I can tell hiding extensions is the best that Subsonic can do right now. I'd make a feature request and hopefully a solution will be implemented in a future release.

cheers

Why not use Subsonic's Music Folder setting. Create a folder structure outside of /var/music
Code: Select all
Folder                                           Display Name
------------------------------------------------------------
/var/mp3-128                                     MP3 128k
/var/mp3-192                                     MP3 192k
/var/mp3-256                                     MP3 256k
/var/mp3-320                                     MP3 320k

/var/flac                                            FLAC
/var/unsorted                                   Unsorted
/var/ogg                                           OGG

When you do this, you can keep different collections separate from each other
and use the drop down list box to choose what you want to browse/listen in.
Choosing "All Folders" will cause Subsonic to list all songs in all folders while
not physically altering their location.

Re: Hide alternate formats of each album

I am trying to hide my flac files, I removed it from the music files extensions under general settings and removed the database but flac files still show.

running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and latest subsonic.

/mnt/data/Music is the path. Unfortunately I have the flac and mp3 files in same folder as album and would rather not redo the hundreds of folders i have.

any ideas?

thanks
