not sure how to do it but i'd be happy to help provide logs if someone can post some instructions...i assume i'd have to start playing something and actually experience the issue while i was capturing the log for this to be useful?

Update: Since installing 1.8.3 I get the first track repeat on Shuffle play form the main menu. Selecting an album, select all, play does not repeat the first track.

Tried that and when it worked the first time I said..."hell, yea"...but after further testing that works only once in awhile...1 out of 10 tries, or so.

And 1.8.4 was still no help.

No change in Version 1.9.

First track still repeats.

sindre, I'm an aspiring Android developer and experienced JavaEE developer. I've also got an Evo and am affected by this. If you're having trouble reproducing it, I could try seeing what I can figure out. Gotta love open source. :)

Maybe if I fix it you could count that as a donation? :D

I'm thinking this is not a high priority for him, like it's on the back burner on a 10 burner stove. A progress update would be welcome...or even a wave now and then. My question is, how will I know if it has been fixed if I don't donate before the preview period runs out? Audiogalaxy keeps getting better with each update and Subsonic (with the constant repeats on my EVO) is merely an embarrassment.

I just drove over a thousand miles over the Thanksgiving weekend with my EVO mounted on the dash of my car while streaming music from my server at home. there were a few spots in the PA hills where a weak 3g signal prevented the streaming from keeping up with the play rate for a few minutes, but other than that it was clear tunes the whole way. Other than the first track repeat issue, which is annoying, but minor, I couldn't have asked for a better setup. My son is a concert violinist and was amazed at the sound quality.

If you're not getting your EVO to perform properly, you may just not have enough output speed from your server to keep up with the play rate.

Have you tested with the demo server?

I'm running a stock EVO with the latest OTA. If you've rooted your phone, you might need to try a different rom.

There is nothing wrong with the SS/EVO combination if it is set up properly and you have sufficient upload capability. (Other than the first track repeat issue.)

You first need to determine if it's the phone or the server that is causing the problem.

I'm not sure it's fair to call the whole thing an embarrassment over the repeat issue. In any event, whether it's due to priorities or just that he can't reproduce it, the beauty of open source is that others can step in to help. If I have time this weekend I'll try to look at of myself. No promises that I'll be able to fix it, but I'm willing to try!

I agree, but when he says "constant repeats" I'm assuming that like others I've helped, he's probably not getting the music uploaded to the phone fast enough to keep up with the player. When this happens, the player repeats the last track until it thinks it has enough of the next track to move to it.

Many users think this is a bug in SS, but it's just a symptom of the data not getting to the phone fast enough. I've had this happen when I've had weak 3G signals.

The other cause can be that the host server just doesn't have the capacity to process and transmit the data fast enough. This can be due to just a lack of server horsepower, or lack of sufficient upload band width. You've got to have enough pipe on both ends to get everything working properly, but when you do, it is sweet. I''ll be cancelling my XM subscription next month!

Regarding the low bandwidth theory I did a test using my home Wifi. I picked an album at random (The Knack, awesome album btw), and set the cache size to 'unlimited' and also the songs to preload to 'unlimited'. And using your previous advice I did a 'select all' then hit 'play'.

The first track is only 2:21 but by the time the first song was about 3/4's finished playing the entire album had been downloaded. After the first song finished playing, of course, the same song started over again.

One thing that the dev could consider, is that if this is happening to (for the most part), the HTC EVO, then maybe the Sense UI has something to do with it.

As far as I'm concerned, even the smallest amount of money is too much to "donate" to a product that does not perform the way it is intended. Would you buy an brand new car with the A/C not working and let the salesman tell you "we're trying to figure out how to fix that". So when my preview period runs out, I guess the only way I will know if any progress was made to this problem is to keep coming back to this tread. There have been 3 app updates since the dev became aware of this problem and none have fixed this, nor has there been any communication from him as to any progress. I'm beginning to lose hope.

Yeah, you're right.

Time to dump this app and move on.

I can't believe that I am so dumb sometimes. To think that even though I use this app everyday, that I would think for a minute that it was sensable to overlook such a glaring flaw.

Do you think I should request a refund?

To think that I can afford a computer, pay an ISP, own a cell phone that I pay a monthly fee for ... but I should make a small donation to the developer of an app I use every day that has a flaw ...

I must be the dumbest guy on the planet.

If I used it "every day" I would donate as well, but I don't. I test it every 2 or 3 days for the hell of it just to see if it has somehow miraculously been fixed. The last time I used it was just to test the audio quality and compare it with Audiogalaxy. I didn't hear any difference. But now that the Market has a new "Related" app tab I've seen 2 or 3 others I plan to test. My goal is to have a good sounding system. I would prefer a non-cloud based system but Gmote skips too much.

Your sarcasm was amusing, but a "fanboy" is easy to spot.

So are cheap people who justify their pettiness by harping on a minor glitch.

The sound quality I get on SS is outstanding. It is as good as what I get on XM satellite radio. If your not getting good quality sound, it's not the fault of SS.
