Windows event log? Nothing.
Are there error logs produced by subsonic? If so, where?

After installing the latest version on my new machine, didn't work. Installed beta version, didn't work. Installed latest again, worked.

What I have noticed is one version installs at C:\subsonic, the other at C:\Program Files\Subsonic

Could this be the cause of all the headaches?

The only solution I found is the post above. Seems like the developer is either ignoring this issue or is stumped. I don't dare install 4.2 on my second machine.

I had the same issue, and noticed, coincidentally, that my last java update had an error. I've reinstalled java and the issue is resolved. Hopefully that helps.

The new machine I installed on and ultimate got 4.2 working on did not have java installed at all, so the subsonic installer did it for me. Immediately following that installation completion, no working subsonic :-(
The rest of the story is above.

The first machine currently running the beta release works fine, until I try to install 4.2, so doesn't that say java is fine?

I actually already reported this issue earlier but nooone responded to it.
This issue only effects windows installs where you try to run the subsonic service as a user, if you set it to run as administrator it will work. However if trying to mount the music via a samba share, you will no longer be able to. (subsonic must be run as a user with the same permissions as the samaba share to mount it)

This is probably unrelated but I was getting the HTTP ERROR: 404
NOT_FOUND error on my Ubuntu server 10.04 after upgrading from 4.2 beta to 4.2. I fixed the problem by rebooting and re-installing the subsonic package.
