Playlist Shortcuts

Postby BigLa » Fri Dec 03, 2010 6:17 pm

Is there a way to create a shortcut to a playlist on the left menu? I would love to have quick one click access without going through the Load Playlist screen.

Shortcuts simply place whatever folder you select in the section at the top. Assuming storage is cheap and you don't mind duplicates, you can just create "playlist" folders, designate them as shortcuts, and put copies of what you want to hear in the shorcut folders. Perhaps not elegant, but certainly practical.

Another way is to create playlists and use them via /podcast.view?suffix=.rss - it give you a nice list of all your playlists.

I use the RSS feeds with my XBMC (worthy download) and it works GREAT!

I just discovered something...
I added play list extensions like .m3u, .pls, .xspf to the extensions list that subsonic understands and they show up now in the index.

Make a folder for all your .m3u files and place them there.
You will then have a nice list of all the playlists.

I use Media Monkey on windows to create playlists but any tool that can create standard playlists will work.

Even better....add the subsonic playlist folder to your index scan and use subsonic to create them and they will be added on next index scan. :)

Your mileage might vary... :)
It looks like the playlist done by subsonic will refer to the lib location so if you use a reachable network location this will work.

Need to do more testing but having streamable playlist in the left hand side column would be handy.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll try them out tonight. My ultimate goal is to have a quick link to albums by year, so I know I'll have to create my playlists with an external app.

I think the best solution would be to use a copy of GJ's suggestion, along with symbolic links. Ultimately it will give me the most full featured link to my music by year, and it won't take up any more space. Now how to automate creating the symbolic links. :)
