Players on Android?

Postby Lucretiel » Mon Dec 06, 2010 9:44 am

Hey all,

I was just wondering if it was possible to use players in the android app. I have my subsonic server set up to do both music streaming and jukebox, with one player streaming and the other controlling the jukebox. I was hoping I could use my droid as a remote control for it when I'm at my house.

Let me know :D

I have done that by accessing the website through the browser on my EVO 4G.

Now that we are on the topic of android players, i have a question..

can i use external players on android devices other than subsonic's player to play my streaming music..?

For example. Use players like meridian, powerAMP, winamp etc etc?

I have tried that without success yet. Don't know if that can be done.

I would like to do that as well in order to play video files on my Android.

It can probably be done, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Have you tried caching the files to the android device and then playing it with the built in media player? It works pretty well with music as the android OS indexes all the folders on the SD card looking for media files and adds them to the library. Not sure if it will work for video but wort a try

Yes, I've done that. I'm just looking at different ways to do things. I know I can get a bigger SD card and store movies on the phone, but I was trying to see if I could transcode a few movies to a low enough resolution to be able to stream them to the phone and patch them into the DVD player on my Suburban. Just something fun to try so my kids would be able to stream movies off the server while we're on road trips. I've actually gotten movies to run on the phone over 3g and I think if I pre-transcode them to flv, I might get a decent enough result to get a good enough stream for the DVD player in the car as the scren isn't very high res anyway.

Probably a reach, but still fun to try.
