Missing Charaters \ Lost Albums

Postby timzentu » Wed Dec 08, 2010 9:52 pm

I was just wondering if anyone else is having a problem with 4.2 (Build 1946) not showing certain albums.

The album I am missing is '...An Education in Rebellion' by 'The Union Underground'

I think that it is due to the ellipse/3 periods that starts the album title, and i was wondering if there was a way to fix it besides changing the name of the album. I am a stickler on how my albums are sorted and on their naming, every one of my albums is named, tagged (with Tag Scanner and Pollux, then Tag Scanner again with renaming the files to my standards), then they are moved to my music folders (original and a backup folder I have been burned too many times via data failure and theft).

Albums beginning with dot "."

I have not yet looked at the source, but I tested your issue and found that any albums (directories) beginning with a dot (period)"." are not indexed by Subsonic.

I'm running Subsonic on Linux, thus files/folders beginning with a dot mean "hidden", so Subsonic could simply be ignoring hidden files.

Since you noticed this change between versions, a change to the source should be possible, including adding an option to the properties file to show/hide hidden folders.

I just had this happen but i was able to fix it by deleting the db folder. After doing that my folders started to update correctly. You could try by just deleting the subsonic.data file but if that doesn't work you might have to delete the whole db folder but thus being forced to loose all your settings.

Good Luck,

Thanks guys. I just tried what you recommended seanpkeown, but unfortunately it didn't work... so I guess I am forced to rename my album until a later version comes out.

I ended up getting it working by just renaming the folder. So I guess that period is a hidden directory for the database program in Subsonic.

It would be nice to allow people the choice of turning that off, or to have the Windows version not use period that way.

I just tried to use the actual horizontal ellipsis symbol, and it seems to be working, but I don't know how well it works via other media players on my machine. (Subsonic doesn't do visualizations, which is nice to have going when you are listening to music at a party).
