Another problem:

If the song doesn't have lyrics it displays the lyrics of another song entirely. On some occasions even if the song has lyrics it will display those of another song. Try again a bit later and the lyrics are correct

Hey guys, sorry I've been away from the forum yet again. I'm finishing up the next update, version 2.3, which includes Jukebox control, server side search (including the new expanded search in Subsonic 4.2), and quick access to albums like the Subsonic web interface home page. Plus tons of little UI enhancements and bug fixes. Almost the entire internals of iSub have been rewritten to make it much easier to update in the future.

Also, just want to remind everyone again, if you have ANY questions or comments about iSub, it's always quicker to email me or tweet me. I answer all emails and tweets within 24 hours, life permitting.

To add a single song to a playlist, browse to the song using any tab, slide to the right on the song to reveal the Cache and Queue buttons, then tap Queue.

stueng wrote:Ability to control other players still desperately needed; this communicates over HTTP; so does the normal player where you can control the jukebox player - can you not hook into this?

Ability to manually cache files / albums / playlists (could replace built in phone player / itunes syncing)

Ability to edit server side playlists; we want to keep our playlists central, managed in one place

The ability to control Jukebox mode is coming in the next update. There is no support in the Subsonic API to control specific players, but there is a jukebox control API.

The ability to manually cache artists/albums/songs/playlists is already in iSub! Just slide to the right on any table cell, and tap the Cache button. The songs will only downlaod on Wifi due to app store restrictions, but you can get a bunch of songs ready for caching anytime and they will automatically download when you are on Wifi. You can see the status in the Cache tab looking at the cache queue section.

mlody11 wrote:I would love for this app to be able to inject a downloaded file from subsonic into the ipod library on my iphone.

Im sure this would violate the developer SDK agreement and hence wouldn't be approved for the app store... sigh. Any chance for a jailbroken version? I would pay extra for that one because I would never need to sync my iphone with the damn PC anymore... Or even something as simple as sync an entire playlist in subsonic to my phone. Stupid apple and their restrictive guidelines...

This unfortunately can't be done. However, as I said above, you can already wifi sync (manually cache) songs into iSub from your server. In your specific example, you can go to playlists and slide to the right on a playlist then tap Cache and it will sync down that whole playlist. You can also do that on any artist, album, or song.

stueng wrote:Once you cache a playlist locally you cannot see the playlist when offline. This defeats the purpose of caching the playlist; if you cache the playlist it should cache the playlist, not just the songs in the playlist

No ability to "play all songs" you have to manually queue every song/album/genre etc. Some of the time we just want to randomly play music from our entire library

Right now you are correct, playlists are not shared between offline and online mode. I'm working on making this possible. There are some internal reasons that make it more difficult that it looks.

Also in the new 2.3 update is a quick shuffle button on the new Home tab I've added. This allows you to, without loading any of the tabs, just tap a button and it will load a playlist of 100 random songs from your server and start playing it.

ShadowVlican wrote:how did you manage to cache your playlist? by saving it locally?

i wouldn't call that caching, but it's what i use too... since loading my playlist from server takes too long... there ought to be caching for everything with manual refresh (like the rest of the program but omitted for playlists)

To save a server playlist locally, tap on a song in the server playlist to load it up and start playing it. Once it's loaded, go to the Playlists tab (or the current playlist section in the player overlay) and tap Save Playlist at the top of the current playlist. This will allow you to select a name and save it to the Local Playlists section (will not cache the songs). To cache the songs, just swipe to the right on the server playlist and hit the Cache button.

The lyrics use the Subsonic API's get lyrics function and are a bit flaky especially for songs that aren't top 40 music. Also there seems to be another bug causing different lyrics to be displayed. I'm working on correcting that. I have included an option in the new 2.3 update to disable lyrics altogether for those who don't want it.

Hi,

I have a question about iSub caching system. Most of the time, when I'm using your fabulous application, I'm in the subway, and as it's underground, there are some network breaks. iSub continues to play the rest of the cached music but, once there are no more cache, song is cut. I know this is normal, but, when network is back, music is not always resumed, sometimes it's next song which is starting. Consequently, I have plenty of songs of 10 secondes in my cache.

FYI, I'm using 64kbits transcoding in order to speed up transfers.

I'd like to know if there is a way to do something for this problem ?

Thanks.

Just a question. Any plans for a better search feature? Takes some tine to reload the songs tab when I add new songs

Siendre : if I wanted to cache my whole music collection, I wouldn't use iSub. Let me being clear, I don't complain about music breaks, what's is annoying me is to don't have the full song cached once network is back.

If it's impossible to simply solve that issue it's not bad, I'm still enjoying Subsonic and iSub :).

The network code is written so that if a connection becomes unavailable, it will retry a few times to resume the connection. If it fails to resume after too many tries, it will end that connection so when you hit play again it ends up starting a new connection for the next song. I will look into improving that mechanism so that it is smarter about resuming failed connections.

Absolutely! The upcoming version 2.3, which should be submitted to Apple by December 1st includes full support for the new search in Subsonic 4.2 as well as the search API in previous versions of Subsonic. It's right on the new Home tab along with access to quick album lists (frequent, recent, newest, random like the Subsonic web interface) and a quick server shuffle button (creates a playlist of 100 random songs and starts playing, no need to load the tabs first). It should make large collections a lot easier to deal with. The built in searches on the Artist/Album/Song tabs will still be there, but just so you can quickly limit those lists, rather than as the main search functionality.

feature request: auto-update 3G cached songs to Wifi version when playing

reason: i have a ton of low quality cached music (cached during 3G) and when i'm playing them again at home/wifi, it's still low quality

current workaround: manually cache songs while i have wifi to ensure i have full quality version when on the road

workaround 2: enable higher quality 3G songs, but my 3G isn't able to keep up, so this workaround is out the question

I've just noticed a annoying thing. I have about 15users using my server and I update my collection everyday with new artists and albums. The problem is that if I do an update on the artist tab it won't update the new albums added to existing artist. Let's say for an example that I've added a new album to artist "beatles"then I have to navigate to beatles folder and do a manually update inside that folder to ahow the new added album. Any fix for this in next version or do something that sync every folders automatically.
