Can't Figure Out Podcast Setup

Postby kkinderen » Fri Dec 10, 2010 6:33 pm

I'm not having any luck with getting podcasts to work. When I subscribe to the link (using MediaMonkey) I only see a My Favorite Artists playlist... but it cannot be played. When I look at the properties it shows:

Code: Select all
C:\Users\kevin\Music\Podcasts\Subsonic Podcast\My Favorite Artists.flac

which is definitely wrong. It is a playlist, not a .flac file. The file is actually named: My Favorite Artists.m3u.

In addition... in the Podcast receiver I added a podcast which downloaded 240 episodes. But I don't see that when I subscribe. They just are not there.

When I enter my podcast link into a browser it returns:

Code: Select all
Subsonic Podcast http://192.168.1.4:8080/music/podcast Subsonic Podcast en-us http://subsonic.org/pages/inc/img/subsonic.png Subsonic Podcast My Favorite Artists http://192.168.1.4:8080/music/podcast Subsonic playlist "My Favorite Artists" Thu, 09 Dec 2010 23:42:08 -0500

There is no mention of the podcast I subscribed to and I see no reason why it think the playlist is a .flac file.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm not sure what you're trying to do. I've set up a few podcasts that download from different sites, but it looks like you're doing something different. Are you trying to set up a play list as a pod cast? Seems a bit redundant, but I'm sure I'm just not understanding what you're trying to do.

I think I was under a misconception - but I still think I have an issue.

I thought that by subscribing to podcasts in Subsonic that I could use a podcast listener (like Android Listen) to listen to those podcasts. But it seems that is not the case. The podcasts downloaded only become part of the media library. Do I have it right now?

As for the second part...

Under "More" it says:

Podcast
Saved playlists are available as Podcasts.
Use the following URL in your Podcast receiver: http://yourhostname/podcast, or click here.

So again, I thought I could see the playlists in a podcast listener and select a song to play. But, when I set my podcast listener up to that link and select the podcast, it appears to try to download all the songs - non-transcoded. In other words, if I have a playlist with 10 flac songs and open it up in a podcast listener - it tries to download all 10 flac files and of course it cannot play them.

I guess I'm still a bit confused as to why you're just not listening to everything in the Android player directly off the server? If you want to download a local copy of a podcast or music, that's easy enough to do if you think you may not have connectivity with your server or prefer to not connect over a data connection.

If your podcasts are stored in C:\Music\Podcasts Then saved podcasts appear in that folder just like the rest of the music library. If you designate the folder as a SHortcut, it moves the folder up to the top of the left column in the menu for the music library. Once you open the folder, you can tag any/all tracks, scroll to the bottom of the list, and select Save on phone. The same can be done for any of the music.

Hope this helps, let me know if you still have questions.

Yes... that helps. I now understand that part of podcasts.

What does it mean that saved playlists are available as Podcasts?

Sorry, I don't know where that is. On the home screen of the Android app if you tap the list icon (the horizontal bars between the magnifying glass and the turntable) all your saved playlists show up.

EDIT: I found it. It's on the "More" screen. I'm not sure what it does or if it adds any functionality. I'll play around and see if I can figure it out, but I doubt it's anything I'd use. I can't see what functionality it would add.

I found it in the web browser at http://mysite.subsconic.com/. At the time there is an icon labeled More. On that page is some information labeled Podcast. I was trying to figure out what this meant.

I just tested it in IE8. it does set up a pod cast to your browser, or I assume, any podcast player. I suppose it's handy if you have some other podcast listening device you can use to stream playlists to.
