[SOLVED] JW Player not showing at all

Postby Minime » Fri Dec 17, 2010 6:02 am

Hi,

Firstly i would like to thank Sindre(and all the other developers) for this great piece of software. Up until recently i was using Firefly on a Windows home server. I have recently moved onto a linux server(Fedora 12) and also discovered Subsonic along the way. It seems superior to Firefly and i decided to give a try few days ago. It all seems to have gone well and no errors encountered while installing it and server is up and running in many ways, however, i cant seem to get the embedded flash player(JW player) at all.

I have tried from Firefox(Fedora box), Firefox and chromium on a different box(Mint) as well as MS IE from an XP box from within my network and outside and the flash player does not start at all and clicking on the play icon does not do anything. I have tried the various players i.e web player/external player/jukebox and none of them start a playback.

I have been able to access my server's media successfully from SubAir(with mixed results ie occasional freeze) and also from the iphone app iSub. Also i am able to access other subsonic servers(A friends) and the demo site from my machines and web browsers named above without any problem and JW Player comes up every time so the issue would seem to be a problem on my side.

I have spent a substantial amount of time these last few days reading through the forums and i have not found an identical problem description/solution to follow yet.

I am running Sunsonic ver 4.2 (build 1944) – November 21, 2010
jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_18, on Fedora Linux 12.

I have upgraded the JW player to 5.4 following this link: http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtop ... ght=player hoping that it may fix my problem, but no joy.
I would really appreciate if anyone can help me get that sorted as i have done everything i could possible do including installing and updating to the latest java and flash plugins.

Best regards
Mini

Play icon don't work at this time. I'm not sure, what is the problem about this? Click on first track or right arrow (right from flash player)...

Check also Settings / Transcodings. You see ffmpeg and lame programs... Install latest version of this programs and also check links in /var/subsonic/transcoding to point this programs.

No flash player ....

Hi,

Maybe my question was not very clear. The problem is that a flash player will never appear in the web browser whilst on my subsonic server.Clicking the play icon next to the song does not do anything, there is just no player visible at the bottom of the web browser.

Like i described in my previous post, this lack of flash player is only happening with my server. I can play media on other subsonic servers including yours and the Sindre's demo server(from any of my machines). I can also play my own media using iphone app and the Adobe Air desktop app without problem so the issue is not the transcoding or location of my media. I can login, browse everything, but not able to play anything on the web broswer due to lack of flash player visible at the bottom half as it does on other servers.

Install flash plug-in for your browser. Also check flashblock, adblock+ add-ons and enable your site...

PM to me guest account from your server please.

I don't have flashblock/adblock or anything like that installed. Also my flash works fine on other sites and other subservers. The experince is the same with Chromium, Firefox and IE in Linux and Windows. Not entirely sure what the problem is. It is most certainly to do with my server missing something.

It sounds to me like you have a bad server install on your hands. I would try removing your current SS install and then re-download the install packages and try it again.

Kermit22,

I suspected that as well. If go down that route, can i retain my database and or settings? Anything in particular to keep to safe recreating everything?

/var/subsonic/????

First try to reinstall right over the existing install.

If you planned to reinstall without losing settings follow instructions on this my post:

http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=17217#17217

Stop server! Backup "db" directory and "subsonic.properties" file before reinstalling. After reinstall stop server and replace "db" and "subsonic.properties". Start server and check settings...

I had a bit of time this evening and did a fresh OS install, then did a fresh Subsonic 4.2 install following the instructions on: http://www.subsonic.org/pages/installation.jsp#debian
I have added my media and did basic configs and glad to report that all is working fine. I don't have any videos so cant report on that. Thanks everyone for your kind help. I am sure there will be few thing to iron out here and there, but will cross that bridge when the time is in. i will be making a humble donation to the project soon.

Cheers
