Need help setting up music folder located in a home server

Postby tomasito » Fri Dec 31, 2010 5:50 pm

Hello,
I heard good reviews of the subsonic, and the advantge it has with audio galaxy. I dwonload the setup program last night.
My massive music collection is stored in a HP mediasmart home server.

I have been trying to setup the music server. I am unable to set it up since last night.

I have no music files in my local computer where the subsonic is installed.

I am getting frustrated with the setup.
explorer shows \\myservername\music, I inputted this to the add music folder and hit save . it gave me the error "internet explorer can not display webpage"

I am stuck, need assistance,

Roberto

Install Subsonic on the WHS. In settings/music mask just enter d:\Music once you have SS on the homeserver. That way you can access your SS site by using servername.homeserver.com:port address of the SS install. Works great and allows you or friends/family to share! :D

I did a little internet google search. It looks like that I need to use the .war program, and it will be deployed using tomcat.
I think it is over my head with this.

Is there an easier way of doing this?

You need to actually install it on the server. Remote in and install it. Its not a what addons so you can install it though the whs connector app

My family runs it's own music "server" which amounts to little more then a shared music folder on one of the 4 household windows computers. Sometimes I want access to their music along with my own (which is on my subsonic server)

I have been successful with mounting the it to a home music folder and then just using a local path in subsonic /home/me/networkmusic or something like that.

which keeps you from having to install the server on the music comp itself. However, the speed is abysmal from off the local network laptop->desktop->music is a bunch o connections

Subsonic can be easily installed on WHS through Remote desktop connection. I'm currently out of town, but I will be happy to assist with installation next week when I return home.

If you are already familiar with how to access WHS through RDC, just install Java and Subsonic on the C: drive and point the music folders to your libray on the D: drive.

EDIT: In the meantime, read this:

here is the setup that I have at home.
Music is stored is the HP mediasmart server (800GB Flac files)
There are 4 desktop computers at home - 2 window vista and 2 window XP

The goal: To be able to stream music into my vibrant android phone

I tried installing the subsonic in one of the computers, didn't work.
I was advised that I need to install the subsonic directly in the HP mediasmart.
The HP mediasmart server has it's own remote access. Inside , it has a folder called "software" , in this folder it has the following folder
"add ins"
"Home PC restore CD"
"Home server connector software"
"Mac"

Question:
How do I proceed in installing the subsonic?
what version of the subsonic should I use -
Stand-alone version
WAR version
windows installer version

I also read that I need to use Tomcat to install the subsonic. Some say that I also need to include Java.

This is getting to be technically confusing. I don't want to mess up my home server too much data information in it.

WHS and subsonic

Postby whimpyjones » Sat Jan 01, 2011 5:08 pm

Check out my post in this thread. It is an older step by step for installing tomcat and subsonic on WHS v1 (not the beta Vail). Everything should still be the same.

i have an HP EX487 mediasmart. one of the links stated that this tutorial is for custom built WHS. Because it stated that the EX48series aleady has the tomcat installed.

I went into the software folder of the EX487, I do not see a tomcat folder.

I have to read up more
