Couple of Newbie Questions

Postby dse_98 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:18 am

(I poked around a bit for answers to these but didn't quite find clarification--my apologies if already posted)

I downloaded, donated, got my license etc, but on the Settings page where I set it up to access the server over the 'net, I get the message: "Status: (myname).subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)"

The configuriing of the router worked fine so I'm not sure what I did wrong?

2nd question: (and this might be a dumb one)--do i have to leave my pc on at home if I want to access my subsonic account while at a friend's house?

Thanx much for your time and help!

Hi,

I am fairly new to subsonic myself, but will try to answer your questions the best i can.

I take it you have registered your subsonic sub domain already and it has worked for you before, but not anymore?. Have you tried to access your server by ip address? for example, type: 192.168.1.6:4040 or http://localhost:4040(change to whatever you set yours to) in your browser and see if you get access. If you do, there is a problem with your.subsonic.org subdomain. You could try registering it again(Settings, Network/Save) Keep an eye on the status output.

For your second question, Yes, you will need the machine you have subsonic server on to be switched on and be online to be able to access it as you are hosting your own media. If you would prefer to have an external hosting solution, there are some commercial hosting companies that will do that for you for money off course, search the forum.

Good luck
Best Regards

Hi and thanks so much for answering---I'm brand new so I have not been able to gain access before. The message I mentioned was received in the process of registering my subsonic.org domain on the Settings/network page. When I click Save it ends up with message I posted, so apparently (and according to the message) it did register but cannot connect somehow--maybe it's because I'm on the main pc at home that I always use? I'll be able to try it at my friend's tomorrow.

Thanks again!

I just signed up also I have the same problem. Says I am registered but I cannot connect from my android device.

If I do localhost:80 I get the server. But does not connect to the XXX.subsonic.org server from the android device. Looks like this software has it share of problems from the number of posts.

I'd recommend another port than 80, and the majority of problems are user settings issues, not software.
