Separate WAN and LAN Download Caps

Postby linuxman » Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:48 pm

Set features so if you have like a DSL with very limited upload rates you can set different download rates for WAN access and LAN access. The current configuration will cap all downloads and if uncorked to get fast downloads on the LAN it chokes the WAN because if the upload for DSL gets saturated it all but kills the connections download and speed altogether. I guess you would have to configure it so that specific IP addresses were capped like I have a router and cap my 192.168.1.1 router IP which is the NAT for my WAN link and leave all other 192.168.1.x addresses uncapped.

I really like that idea. Our house is on fiber, and while you would think 100GB a month of bandwidth would suffice, surprisingly we often go over because of our 15Mbit upload and download speeds. Having a feature to specifiy what your LAN ip range is and have different download/upload limits seperate from your WAN would be perfect. Also, you could force transcoding to a particular bitrate for all players outside the LAN.
