slow menus..

Postby steve2045 » Thu Jan 20, 2011 9:29 am

well...i finally got it working :)

problem is my connection is pretty slow over wifi..

here is my set up

One desktop computer with a static IP connecting to a networked hard drive (connected to my router via usb)

This networked drive is where i send subsonic to get all my media (roughly 100gb). And i use a nexus one (android) or google chrome on a mac as devices.

Playing media actually works nicely with no lag over wifi once it loads, but navigating though the menus is painfully slow.

I have a donation account with name.subsonic.org. When this address is loaded with wifi enabled on my android device, is it streaming over lan or internet?

thanks, and sorry if i'm abit vague

The traffic will go to your router, but the router should notice that the IP address being requested is its external IP address, and should just reroute the packets back on the LAN.

So the traffic gets to your "front porch" no further...

Just to be safe, although I think Bushman4 is correct, you could always just define a server setting on the Android that specifies your internal address.

e.g. 192.168.1.252:8085

I'm not positive that all routers keep external addresses in-house. Better to be safe than to find out by looking at your bill if you are getting charged for useage.

Would just like to say that i'm still getting slow menus over the network. This issue is in another thread, but i'm just bumping here. It has connected to LAN fine, but loading large sub folders (with more than 8 or so albums) tends to create a timeout

thanks for the help,
steve
