Cant see songs on Android client. 4.4.beta on ubuntu 10.04

Music Library won't display songs on Android client. 4.4.beta1 on ubuntu 10.04 Amazon EC2 instance

I have search and sifted through the forums and still can't wrap my head around this..

I installed Subsonic 4.4beta1 on my Ubuntu 10.04 system which is running as an instance on Amazon EC2.
I have 2 music folders. 1 is a s3 bucket that is mounted via s3fs. The other music folder is just a local folder on the system.

On my android client (2.5 on DroidX) I can not see any of my music in the Music Library view or any of the other album views (random, recently added, top rated...)
Here is what makes it odd:
If I search for a song that I know I have, I am able to find and play it.
If I make a playlist (via the web interface) I am able to play it on my android.

I also have a home subsonic server set up on my osx system. My android client is able to connect to that with full functionality.

On my ubuntu subsonic server, via the web interface, I am not able to see any of the album artwork on the main page. The other album views also do not show up.
The song listing on the left does work however, and I am able to play the music.

I have tried updating the search index multiple times. I have also tried increasing the max memory setting.

I have been trying to work around this for the past couple of days and just can't get anywhere.

Thanks so much for the software! Despite this problem, I think Subsonic is awesome so far!

Playlists work fine, but nothing I do can get songs to appear from the android app...

does the demo server work for you on your android?
If you search for a song can you find and play it?

Does the main page on the WebUI work right for you?

The demo server works fine. But I can't search for songs (none found) or find them in browse. They're only available in playlists.

When I use the web interface, I can see the songs just fine.
