Possible to limit download to wifi

Postby Freddan101 » Thu Jan 27, 2011 2:27 pm

Is it possible to limit the download of files to wifi connection only? I haven't found this feature and it would be really useful. Otherwise you risk to download huge amounts of data over 3G.

Most phones have the ability to turn off the 3g radio on the phone. I always keep all the radios off until I need them to conserve battery power. Even though I have unlimited data, turning off 3g, 4g, bluetooth, and wifi until I need them, extends my battery life by more than double compared to leaving everything turned on. In this mode the phone still recieves calls and text msgs.

YMMV 8)

Naah, that is not an option for me. I always want to be connected! :) Though, I would like to be able to press that download button and when I connect to a wifi network the app starts to download automatically. Spotify has something like that and I really find the feature useful.

I guess this a post for the feature forum then.

Don't think you'll ever see that happen. I'm not even sure it's possible for the application to dictate or differentiate the connection method the phone uses. It's also probably something the dev wouldn't spend much time on when you already have control on the device itself. But, you never know ... I guess anything is possible.

I've seen a lot of apps providing this feature to save data traffic over 3G so I think it's most possible to implement.
