Two Issues

Postby dcuellar » Sat Feb 05, 2011 3:37 pm

Hello. First of all, thank you for this wonderful streaming app. I am currently using it with iSub for the iPhone and it is working wonderfully.

I am, however, experiencing two issues. The first is Album artwork not showing for a great number of albums. I know I have the album artwork for all of my music, yet it is not showing on many. I recently moved my library to an external so I'm guessing it has to do with that.

The second issue is with the characters. I have some albums displaying a "_" instead of the correct character. For example, instead of displaying "...Alias the@ikt" and it is displaying as "_..Alias the @ikt". It is replacing the first dot with the underscore. I realized that this was how the folders are displayed in my itunes library also, but iTunes is reading them correctly. I tried changing the folder name to the correct form but I get an error. (I'm on a Mac)

You can’t use a name that begins with a dot “.”, because these names are reserved for the system. Please choose another name.

It is also happening with ":" and names ending with a dot. They are all being replaced with underscores.

Can the tags be used for display instead?

I found the feature to download album art. That works fine for the first issue.

Now if I can only figure out the characters issue.

Those are most certainly limitations of the filesystem and OS you are using. For example under linux folders starting with "." (a dot) are hidden folders. and there are a number of characters that are allowed in the filename but when you put them at the beginning, they have special functions/meanings for the operating system and so cant be used for regular files because those folders will then behave differently.

More a explanation than a solution I'm afraid, but I'm not to keen with the mac inards. on my linux server I had to "break" a few correct album names in folders that were using odd characters or positions to make it work in SS and sometimes to be able to name the folder at all (Album name ".\/&%&%§&/%$." anybody, try to name a folder that way^^)

But at least tags are used for the playlist if present, so if the tags show the correct info, it will display proper in the playlist. For the index view and the main folder view in the middle you'll have to sanitize your filenames AFAIK.

The problem is it's not showing properly. It has tags, it's just not being read correctly. Subsonic is showing R.E.M. as R.E.M_. So is iSub on the iPhone.

The file browser uses the actual file and folder names, not the tags. This is why you have these dashes - to avoid illegal file names on Mac. If you browse the collection in Finder (not iTunes) it will look the same. Using the actual structure is a feature, not a bug.

It's unfortunate. What do you think about adding a feature to manually tag a folder/file through subsonic? Would it be possible? So, if I specify I want "R.E.M_" to be read as "R.E.M.", Subsonic reads it as such.
