Email required for new user

Postby Radicaleggnog » Sun Feb 06, 2011 10:07 pm

In the newer versions of subsonic it seems that new users are required to have an email address associated with them. This puzzles me because new users don't get emailed when their account is created, or at any other time from what I can tell. Why is this a required field and how can I turn it off?

As yet, there hasn't been any information put forth as to why email address is required. Speculation has suggested that it may be for use in new features in upcomming versions. One feature could be automated password reset. Perhaps notification system to all users regarding updates, new material added. It could also lead to an auto registration system that would relieve the admin of having to input all info manually. These are just my guesses, I have no real information on the topic.

the email requirement is a great annoyance, particularly when trying to add friends or family which either don't have/use an email or I don't have it handy.

Yes it is. And on mine it always prefills my username and password in the wrong place. It puts my username in the email block. I think it's Chrome that's doing it, but obviously something is wrong with the data field identification. I usually just put my email address in for any that I don't have.
