New user of Subsonic. iSub looks intriguing. Will purchase when Jukebox mode is confirmed to work.

Looking to be able to control my whole home audio system via my iPod touch.

reason: i have a ton of low quality cached music (cached during 3G) and when i'm playing them again at home/wifi, it's still low quality

current workaround: manually cache songs while i have wifi to ensure i have full quality version when on the road

workaround 2: enable higher quality 3G songs, but my 3G isn't able to keep up, so this workaround is out the question

This is a great idea. The 2.3 update is feature frozen now as I'm preparing it for release, but I'll put this on my list to do in a future update.

kroken wrote:I've just noticed a annoying thing. I have about 15users using my server and I update my collection everyday with new artists and albums. The problem is that if I do an update on the artist tab it won't update the new albums added to existing artist. Let's say for an example that I've added a new album to artist "beatles"then I have to navigate to beatles folder and do a manually update inside that folder to ahow the new added album. Any fix for this in next version or do something that sync every folders automatically.

Right now the tradeoff is between quick browsing and manually updating, or slow browsing and always having the latest folder info. Since the Subsonic API doesn't support the kind of communication that iSub needs to be perfect with folder caching on, what you essentially need is a way to disable the folder caching altogether. I'm also working on something for iSub 3.0, that may include some code additions to Subsonic, to allow for better synchronization of the Subsonic library with iSub which would make that unnecessary. If not that, then I'll include an option in a future update to disable folder caching.

Thanks guys! The upcoming iSub 2.3 update is fully iPad native. Then I'll be optimizing the iPad user interface further for the 3.0 update.

Well I can personally confirm that Jukebox mode is in the upcoming iSub 2.3 update and it is working great with full use of Subsonic's Jukebox API. Once the update is out then you can get further confirmation from other users.

That's great news! Any ETA on the release? I've heard publishing things through apple can be a real PITA :)

"When it's ready"is acceptable :)

Heh ya PITA is an understatement ;)

I have frozen development of new features for the update to prepare it for release, but there are still a few things that need to be cleaned up before it's ready. I'm going to do my best to have it submitted by New Years, then it's up to Apple to approve it.

Just upgraded to iSub 3.0 on my iPhone 3G (not 3GS). I actually just did a restore on the iPhone to speed it up, so its a fresh install of the OS.

iSub 3 loads to the main menu, then after a 3-4 second pause, crashes back to the iPhone home screen. If I click to server settings or Quick Albums fast enough, it will go to the next screen but then quickly crash. Attempted a full restart of my iPhone (holding down home and power until the apple logo appears) and it still crashed.

Reverted back to the previous version in the meantime.

Sorry about that, should be fixed now. It had to do with the update check. It was working on 2.2.3 then when you would update to 3.0 and it would check again, it would crash. You should have no problem running it now. Again, sorry for the inconvenience.

I upgraded to 3.0 tonight and wow! It looks awsome!!!
Quick album and Server shuffle are both excellent features.
Congratulations Ben for a job well done. I Really can't thank you and Sindre enough for all your hard work and continued developement. SS+iSub have quickly become my 2 most utilised apps and i love them both. Another humble donation is on its way to the project.
Best Regards

Video Streaming

Postby jeremy_loo » Tue Apr 19, 2011 5:21 pm

Hi,

I'm new to Subsonic and iSub.

Is there any possibility that iSub can stream video on iPad/iPhone?

Thanks,

Jeremy Loo

Currently, it does not. As far as I know, only the Android app streams video.

The issue preventing me from implementing video support is that Apple only allows the HTTP Live Streaming format to be used in iOS apps, and currently Subsonic can not convert video to that format. Once Subsonic is capable of creating and serving this video format, iSub will get video playback support.

Also, if anyone has iSub specific questions, please come see us at the iSub forum: http://isubapp.com/forum
