Make use of permalinks that can be sent to friends

Postby mrmand » Fri Feb 11, 2011 5:37 pm

As title, if this was a reality, I could sent links to music I think my friends should listen to.

I love your software by the way.

Keep it up Sindre :D

this would be sweet. for me it would suffice if only users with a login could open the link, or...well get past the login screen to the links content.

Sure, I took a log in requirement for granted. Otherwise the security would be compromised. Permalinks should require the user to login, but redirect the user to the song upon login.

+1 to this. I keep finding tunes I'd like to link my friends to (who have their own accounts) but have no way to do it so far.

Hello !
I propose more or less the same thing a month ago :
http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5417

The idea is to get an embed feature, as with Youtube, Soundcloud etc.
We can already send m3u files to friends, but embed feature is realy nice to share music on the web, particularly on social networks.

Sure, but what you're suggesting is a bit different. I'm looking for a permalink feature that, if followed, checks the cockies from logins. If there are no valid for my server, the song must not be played. Embedding feature won't allow me to ensure that only my users could play the track.

I understand what you mean. But the m3u files are already open to everybody, even people who are not register on your server.
Maybe a mix between the both features will be a solution : an option wich enable you, when you create a user, to allow him or not to use the embed feature. In the same way we can already allow or not users to “play files in jukebox mode”, upload and download files and change settings (so be able or not to use m3u files and share it to who he want).

Are you sure everyone can pull m3u files from the server without a valid session cookie and play the songs therein in an external player?
If that would be the case I'd be stumped...
