Video streaming issues

Postby tanza » Tue Feb 15, 2011 2:44 am

Hello

I am having issues streaming video in Subsonic from my vortex box server. The video streams OK but the problem I am having is...

4:3 video streams fine with default trans-coding if fact it looks great, but when a video is 16:9 or wider the streaming becomes pixelated, blocky and pretty much unwatchable.

The video format is .m4v (encoded using handbrake). All video files play fine in WMP and VLC locally on the PC. It is just when playing wide format video in the JW player that things get wacky.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Anybody?

It only gets pixelated when it is "widescreen" video transcoded to FLV. I have scoured the forum for a couple of weeks and can't seem to find any information about this issue.

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

What is your transcoding string?

I haven't changed it so it is the default:

ffmpeg -ss %o -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f flv -

Thanks for replying.

Give this a try:

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 30 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -

Wow!! It looks great now.

If you don't mind... I see that the string is different but what was causing the issue?

I want to thank you very much for taking your time to help me. I am very grateful.

Good question. I honestly don't know. Transcoding is not my area of expertise, but I'm just smart enough to recognize that Stozher is the expert in this area and listen to his advice. This string is what he gave me, the credit goes to him.

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 23.976023976 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976023976 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 25 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 25 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 29.97002997 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 29.97002997 -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -

... for 24, 25 and 30 fps... "-async 1" is a special case where only the start of the audio stream is corrected (synchronized to video stream) without any later correction.

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 1 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 25 -s %wx%h -acodec copy -
