From the subsonic server, go to www.whatismyip.com. Make a note of your IP address listed there.

Then use http://IPAddress:SubsonicPort as your web destination (or server address on a remote app) and connect directly.

I have a second server called "Home Direct" on my droid set up similar to this (but because it is a Windows Home Server I can use http://name.HomeServer.com:PortNumber, because the chance that both Subsonic AND Microsoft's domains will be unreachable is remote).

HTH,

Glenn

I see where this would be very helpful. Although wouldn't a dynamic IP cause an issue with this method? Because it's down in Indiana too, and I've been lost all day without it! :(

It's always good to know your external IP address.

Down in DC too. Bummer.

I use dyndns.org as a backup plan. Works swell.

Hmm Guessing that the ip address of 208.109.0.1 is the router since its the first ip address in the 208.109.0.0/16 range.

I noticed that if you change your packet size down to 1 byte the packets seem to flow smoother.

Darn it... :?

Setting up a dyndns redirect or two as redundancy measures is a good idea for the next ooutage. And its free :)

Just make sure your users know about it. I had the mirror links and adresses on the login page for well over 2 years and when the main redirect went down, nobody was the wiser...and the server was deserted all day.

I am still getting the same errors, from the local host and any remote connection:
HTTP ERROR: 503
SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE
RequestURI=/

Powered by jetty://

Any ideas?

You have a different problem. Do you have local access to the server?

A reboot might just fix you up, if not you'll have to dig deeper. First determine if you can access SS at the server through the tray icon. Give it a right click and try to open in browser at the server. If everything runs OK that way, then you have to look at network issues and see if you can access from another computer on your local network. If that works OK, then you have to review your router setup to see why it's blocking SS at the router.

Well, tried uninstall, reboot, reinstall, same deal. Turned off my firewall, still the same, local host, another workstation on the network, or remotely. Have been using subsonic almost a year now without any issues, I believe this started for me when I updated to 4.4.

The Subsonic servers probably do not go down by region. There is only one server that handles the DNS for the subsonic.org functions. Mine is working just fine. You most likely have a different issue. Have you tried connecting to your server using your external ip address and port number. For example, you can reach my server at http://maplegrove.subsonic.org or you can get to the same server using http://98.117.185.5:8082

The only way you can be certain that the problem is with the subsonic.org server is to test both ways.
