Hello,

I was wondering if there is any possible way to set up transcoded downloads. When I'm out and about and want to download, I would rather download MP3 rather than the original FLAC in my library.

I would be thrilled if anyone knows a solution!

Thanks! :D

I actually requested this feature awhile back. I think it's a great idea. But as far as I know, Subsonic does not have any functionality that enables you to do this.

That's sad...Does anyone know if Sindre is considering this feature?
I would love to put my vote in to have it implemented.

Thanks!

He never replied to my thread, but I don't think he ever replies to feature requests, probably doesn't want to get anyone's hopes up if something turns out to not be possible or more difficult than he thinks...

There is a recent poll on this, maybe it will get some more visibility:

Just increase the buffer size. The phone stores the transcoded file on the SD card automatically as tracks are being played. Whatever is in the que gets stored to the cd up to the defined buffer size.

That only works for the Android app though... would love this feature for other platforms such as Mac OS X.

I needed to do something similar last week on a trip, so I fired up my android emulator, manually installed the subsonic .apk, and queued up what I needed transcoded. Then I pulled the transcoded files off the virtual SD card.

I think it would have been faster for me to RDP home to the server, convert the files, and pull them to my remote location, but now that this is set up, I can do it any time I want...

Not for the faint of heart, I'll admit.
