subsonic stops working?

Postby martman » Thu Feb 04, 2010 6:25 pm

Subsonic stops responding after a few hours or a day. http://localhost/ and ip will just keep trying to open it but nothing happens. Subsonic says it is running. I have tried stopping and starting it again but there is no change. The only solution I have found is to restart the computer. Because http://localhost/ doesn't work I think I can eliminate my router as the problem. Is there something in Windows 7 that is causing this?

The same happens to my subsonic server. But I think we also can eliminate the OS as a subject because my server is running on Mac OSX.

I think I had this problem too. I just used http://127.0.0.1 and that fixed it for me.

Well I think you can eliminate the router too, as http://localhost is not leaving your PC.

Restarting the computer is restarting something, is the Windows 7 box a laptop per chance?

The only reason I ask is that the last two laptops I had (a fujitsu, then a HP) both had an annoying feature whereby when they went in to standby mode, you could wake them up, but quite often anything USB or network attached wouldn't work until a full reboot was performed.

If I am more stupid than you, does that make me better at something than you?

If your OS is windows 7 and If http://127.0.0.1 still works try this out. It should only be a patch for whats causing your issue but hopefully it will work.

Run cmd as Administrator pressing the windows key and then typing cmd into the search bar. When it shows up right click on it and select run as administrator.

Then type the following and press enter.
Code: Select all
cd "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc"

your prompt should now say C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc>

Now type and press enter again.
Code: Select all
notepad.exe hosts

You should see some text in side. Try to remove the # pound symbol in front of 127.0.0.1. Make sure to keep the spaceing the same.

BEFORE
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

AFTER
127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

Then save the notepad. See if this fixes your issue. :)

Funny, I notice the same problem last month..
After a day or to it just stops, and the only cure is to restart the server and subsonic service. Anybody experience this problem ??

I too am having this same problem. I'm running the latest version of OSX and I get the program working fine. I'm able to connect locally and over an internet connection from work, but about once a day I'll get a problem where it wont connect over the internet or locally. Restarting the application seems to sort it out immediately, but it's annoying because sometimes I'll leave to go to work (where I use this application the most) and I'll have forgotten to restart the program.

Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this?

In Subsonic Settings/Network - UNCHECK " Automatically configure your router to allow incoming connections to Subsonic (using UPnP or NAT-PMP port forwarding)." make sure to hit the SAVE button, you may have to scroll down to see it depending on your screen size.

Most of these issues center around the network configuration. Oftentimes, DHCP will reassign an internal ip address to the host system. I have outlined my setup guidelines many times here on the board, but briefly:

Don't use port 80 or 443
Assign a high address static ip for the host computer
Go to http://www.canyouseeme.org/ enter your SS port number and click the Check box to be sure the Subsonic port is open.
Make sure you understand port forwarding on your router
Configure the ports in the SS Control Panel to match the router configuration.
Don't rely on Plug & Pray, it usually couses more problems than it solves.
