Auto-search Subsonic on network

Postby jnath » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:18 am

I'm developing a client app within the network and would like to be able to automatically find the Subsonic server without requiring the user to enter it. Possible?

I was thinking of trying all 255 network addresses on the local subnet, first with port 80, then port 4040.

Has anyone accomplished this or have pointers?

Subsonic is not a DAAP server or anything like that and is not discoverable on the network. As far as i know one has to tell the web browser, mobile device or desktop app where the server is by way of URL:port or IP:port numbers.

having said that, there has been requests made to add such a feature and it may one day be added by Sindre :-) Have a look at the feature request section.
Best Regards

Good to know.

Here is a possible workaround:
1) get IP address of client
2) use the ping web service on all IPs in the subnet on default ports: 80 and 4040
http://your-server/rest/ping.view

Would that work?
