I can't play videos on my Samsung Fascinate using Subsonic. Does anyone have suggestions or a fix ?

I get the Prepare Failed message.

I also can't play videos using the JWPlayer

I also receive "operation not permitted" when testing ffmpeg (output below)

I can stream my mp3's.

Here is some information about my setup.

Videos work best if they are preformatted as mp4 or flv. Don't expect miracles over a 3g connection. Your not going to watch the latest Blue ray transcoded by an Atom powered NAS and transmitted over 3g to an Android phone. You can however get results on a par with youtube if you pretranscode your video into flv at a mobile approprate resolution for the phone, and have decent upload speed from the server and reasonably good download speed to the phone. I have watched DVD movies formatted to flv over the phone that actually ran well without buffering and looked pretty good as well. It takes a bit of tinkering and getting a feel for what your harware and connection speeds are capable of.

I've also formatted BlueRay video to mp4 and was able to watch it over FIOS connections on a laptop from about 400 miles from my home. Std. DVD video over a good connection is no problem as long as you have good upload bandwidth and a good download capability at the other end. The same holds for mobile devices with a good Wifi connection. It takes some work, and experimentation to get a feel for where the bottlenecks are and know what's realistic in a given environment.

video not playing throug jwplayer - log excerpt

Postby tclement » Wed Mar 30, 2011 2:48 pm

I don't see any errors in the log. Subsonic finds the file and begins streaming it. However, JWPlayer displays an error

Any thoughts about how to fix this ?

Jwplayer output:

Try:

ffmpeg -v 0 -ss %o -async 30 -i %s -f flv -b %bk -r 23.976 -s %wx%h -acodec copy -

hmm, looking closer, it doesn't look like your transcoder suggest too effect. I don't really know how to make it take effect.

I created a new m4v > flv rule and disabled the default one.

Do I need to do something else for the new rule to be used ?

thanks

Rereading the thread here, are you trying to get this working on the desktop or the phone? Does the file play on the desktop?

videos don't play on the desktop or phone.

I was thinking that I should get it working on the desktop first, then work on the phone.

However, I prefer to play videos on the phone.

When I use your transcoder command,

From the phone, the results change.

I still get " Prepare failed" , but the status changed to 0x1 (IOException)

I am connecting to subsonic through wifi from my android.

Log file output shows no errors:

The phone seems to be downloading approx 2MB each time before it displays the Prepare failed.: status=0x1 (IOException) message

I don't think it is really downloading 2MB.

Something else I noticed

Comparing playing an mp3 vs an m4v

When I select the m4v from the list and select the green play button,

I get a "playlist empty" message.

When I select an mp3, and select the green play button, it plays.

Let's try getting it working on the local server first. What happens when you open SS on the server and try to play an mv4?

Sorry for the delay.

Regarding playback on the local server. It worked today with no changes on my part. I noticed the following in the log file:

Now, when I play a movie from my Android

the following is in the log file

[4/1/11 3:04:12 PM CDT] INFO PlaylistInputStream tclement listening to "Baby Einstein Baby Bach (1999)-1/Baby Einstein Baby Bach (1999)-1.m4v"

However, nothing plays on the Android, I also don't get any errors.

There is text that says "Playlist is empty"
