Seeking in large files

I have lots of large audio files (1+hours long). Seeking seems to work in "normal" length songs, but any of these long files seeking just doesn't work.

Now, I am remote from my house, so it could be a bandwidth issue. I'm just wondering if there's any known problems with these kinds of files. I'm able to do seeking, etc in other apps such as soundcloud.com.

Depending on file type, I've seen this problem myself with mp3 vbr, and it was caused by headers in the file not indicating the overall duration properly in the mp3. I think some tools, like vbrfix, can repair those headers. Look for a tool specific to your file type. HTH!
