android app not finding all files

Postby danasince1979 » Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:30 pm

i have these folders added:

e(audio):audio/artists/album/(files.mp3)
e(audio):audio 2/artists/album/(files.mp3)

g(video):movies/(files.avi)
g(video):television/show/season/(files.avi)

for some reason subsonic is recognizing all files on the web app but on the android app i m seeing all files except in the movies folder i m only able to view files that are in their own folder such as:

g(video):movies/a nightmare on elm street series/(files.avi)

or:

g(video):movies/alien quadrilogy/(files.avi)

anybody have any ideas on this

i d like to contribute to this program but want to make sure everything is working correctly first

That is normal SS behavior. Move each movie into a seperate folder inside the Movies directory. ther might even be a script posted to automate the process if you have a large number of them that need to be moved. It might be worth a search if you need it.

Move each movie into a seperate folder inside the Movies directory

Each movie in a seperate subfolder ? really...?

It should be sufficient to move all the movies in 'g(video):movies/(files.avi)'
to a single sub directory like g(video):movies/abc/(files.avi).

Android will refuse to show any files present in a root directory, just move files one dir down and you will have the normal list (even with movies) on the android app.

hmmm

this is how I have it: g(video)/movies/(files.avi)

where g is the root and movies is a subfolder of that drive and so there are no files at the root

so what you guys are saying is that i have to use this folder structure:

g(root)/movies(subfolder)/movies(sub-subfolder)/file.avi

so that all files are at least 2 subfolders away from the root?

neh,

g(root)/movies(subfolder)/file.avi(s)

should be sufficient....

Just to be clear....

suppose we have following:

g:\movies

as the root in the settings...
Then your files need to be in:

g:\movies\subdir\

well i made it work i just had to add the whole g drive which only has the 2 folders instead of g/movies/ or g/television/ and now on the android app shows everything inside g/movies which is what i was going for

seems like this should work the way i had it though

I had pretty much the same issue as you describe
http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5978

The problem with the explanation of this issue, is it's inconsistent.
If you use the web interface, all movies/media is accessible. It appears on the left column along with the list of sub folders. Yet, on the Android app, there is no way to access the root folder media.

If it's by design, fair enough... it should be consistent though.
If it's a bug... let's address it!

^ agreed.

either way i think it's something that can and should be fixed.

i've been using the android app called unified remote for sometime and the official version that is in the market now has a similar issue where in it's file browser it doesn't see files at the root of a drive yet the beta version available for download from their website has corrected this.

I agree, this is a goofy limitation. I need to think this through because my video archive is used for many thing, not just SS. Certain folders are exported at Windows shares, some are visible to Streambaby and pyTivo, there are a few auto-sync services for cell phones to keep phone video backed up to server and available to the Tivos, and so on.

Just willy-nilly changing the folder structure could cause issues.
