When you connect using the numeric IP address, do you do so over HTTP or HTTPS?

In order for HTTPS to work properly in most cases, you must first connect on the HTTP port and let it redirect you to the HTTPS port.

If you do not have both ports open on your firewall, the Subsonic service will report the error you are getting.

Under Settings/Network, is the "Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address." checked? I would also suggest NOT enableing SSL access until you've first established http access.
