Web Player - Poor Sound Quality

Postby dougman82 » Wed Apr 06, 2011 9:32 pm

So I just downloaded the most recent version of the standalone server and installed it on my home linux server. I have got it all configured so I can access my music over the internet from work over https on port 443. Everything seems awesome.

Except that the sound quality can really suffer when the music is anything more complex than a single voice. I thought that maybe it was simply the speakers on this laptop, so to test that, I enabled the "External Player" option and played some of the worst offending songs through Windows Media Player rather than the web player. They played flawlessly!

Bandwidth is not an issue. I have very high speed connections on both ends (and indeed, when I choose to play a song in the web player, it buffers to 100% almost instantly). In fact, the same thing happens over the same LAN as the server. The songs are all MP3 format, encoded at CBR 192kbps.

Has anyone encountered this problem? I can't really explain what it sounds like. The music doesn't cut out, but it sounds kind of fuzzy/garbled during times of high "action" in the song. I tried searching the forum, but I couldn't find anything about this. I would really rather use the web player rather than an external one, but this is really bugging me!

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Oh and also, the behavior is the same across different browsers.

I am running Windows 7 and have tried Opera 11, Firefox 4, and IE 8. All behave the same.
