Weird Playlist Issues

Postby Son of Spam » Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:33 pm

Sorry for not tacking this query to another previous thread. I thought perhaps other users might be experiencing this:

Issue #1:

So I've created 2 playlists: "The Industry" (which is Industrial Rock) and "The Great Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Playlist", which is pretty self-explanatory.

I'm able to play The Industry on my Android phone no problem. But when I try to access the Heavy Metal one from my phone, I'm getting network connectivity problems (it just doesn't connect). HOWEVER, I'm able to access it remotely on my work station at work. So I don't understand the discrepancy, if I can call it that. Any suggestions?

Issue #2:

Okay, this is really a minor annoyance/inconvenience; nothing major. But when I play my playlists remotely in the SS web client, the album art and tag information doesn't update to the next song. I always have to hit "Playing" to refresh it. How can I rectify this?

Thanks again to all the devs for a great product. I'm really enjoying it.

(Okay, one more issue):

Videos...how do I point my folder to Subsonic? I'm only able to add the "Music" folder in there.

Issue #2 - This is the current behavior. You might want to put a post on this issue in the Feature Requests Area.

Issue #1 - Try removing the / in the list name.

Just add the folder information into Settings/Music Folders - e.g.:

Name Movies
Folder C:\Movies

Check the "Enabled" box and hit the "Save" button.

Hi Gary. Actually I made a mistake: it's the Great Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Playlist.

OK, how about changing the name to "test" and see if it works?

Tried to do it last night but I've been getting a lot of script errors on the home computer for some reason. :? I'll do it when I get to the office.

But I'm also thinking it might be because of the ampersand in the playlist name.

Perhaps I should change it to The Great Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Playlist.

We'll see.

Turns out, it WAS the ampersand. I renamed it to The Great Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Playlist and it does in deed load on my phone. Except the playlist is empty, despite my renaming the existing playlist.

I suspect that I need to create playlists on the same computer where my music is stored(?).

That would be the prefered method.

So I managed to create a new playlist minus the ampersand: The Great Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Playlist.

Managed to access it from work, which is good. But I can't get the Android app to connect to it.

It says "Contacting server, please wait."

Then it attempts to connect 4 times, to no avail. Then it says "A network error occurred. Retrying 1 of 4" until it tries to connect 4 times and then I get a message saying it couldn't connect.

But all my other network-enabled apps seem to connect. And I was able to connect my "The Industry" playlist, but not this one.

:? :?:

Try creating the same playlist with a shortened name, like "test." Remember, most OS's limit total path\filensame to 255 characters, which sounds like a lot until you actually count them.

Also, rereading the thread, does your phone play any music?

So, this is what I did:

I loaded my new "The Great Hard Rock and Heavy Metal Playlist", renamed it as "Heavy Metal" and re-renamed it as "Test". When I try to access either through my phone, neither of them connects, which is strange because -- as I had indicated -- I can use my other apps that require remote access (Audiogalaxy being of note, because it's also a music streaming program).

And, for the record, I still have AG on my phone and it does work, as do other apps such as Facebook. So that says to me that it's the app that may be faulty.

Now, having said that: I WAS able to connect with SS all last week, even listening to my Industry playlist. However, ever since I created these new playlists, I cannot even connect to that one using my phone.

So yes, my phone plays music. Just no longer through Subsonic. :(

These are usually router setup issues. Please find one of my numerous posts on the most reliable methods for implementing remote access to SS. READ ALL instructions carefully.

Thanks for replying, Gary. However, as I mentioned before, I don't have a router. And the setup worked perfectly about a week ago. I was able to set up and access my industrial rock playlist from my phone, no problem.

But ever since I created this latest playlist, I cannot for the life of me figure out why it no longer connects. Funnily enough, the Industry playlist connected shortly after I had submitted my last post. So, encouraged, I tried accessing the variously-named heavy metal ones, but none of them would connect.

I only had this problem since I created this last playlist.

Is there perhaps a song-limit that is hindering my connectivity? I don't see how this would be a factor, but I though I'd ask.

(And again, thanks for all your help!)

BTW: I've configured my ZoneAlarm firewall to accept Subsonic as a server. In the Android app, I've selected Subsonic demo for the server address. I've tested the connection and it says connection is okay. Yet, everytime I try to access the playlists, it doesn't connect.

What port do you have SS configured on?

What is your gateway device from your ISP?

8080.

Server address is http://localhost:8080.

Memory used: Right now it's flittering between 30-80 MB.
Memory limit: 100 MB.
Context path: /

I'm not sure. Do you mean my modem?

If so, it's a Webstar. And all four lights are steady: Power, PC, Data & Cable.

BTW: According to canyouseeme.org, my ISP is not blocking port 8080.

So, given all that: I'm wondering if the issue is in the Android app itself, perhaps the configuration. Although, I had no issues last week, once I got everything properly configured.
