How to setup video streaming??

Postby twos49 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 1:21 pm

Hello all Here's my setup
subsonic verison:4.4
Installed on WHS in
Apache Tomcat/6.0.29, java 1.5.0_22, Windows 2003 without HTTPS. I've tried and tried to get HTTPS to work but can't I'll ask about that in another post.

Issue/problem:
I have purchased the license and successfully updated subsonic from demo to full. I don't know how the video streaming functionality is suppose to work. I have created a "Videos" folder and pointed it to the video folder on the server (D:/shares/video) the same format as my music folder. However does not "pick up" the videos in that folder. I don't see them to the left where all the music is displayed. Also I'm not sure how to play the video once it is found. What I mean, is video suppose to play in a player in the subsonic website?? Am i suppose to install a special video player inside of the subsonic website? Is the video streaming functionality only limited to the mobile apps? I searched the forum but there isn't much to help me out except to just point to a video folder. I did a search on "video" and "video streaming".

Thanks

First of all, welcome to subsonic!

Second, I have set up separate folders for music and video. Then go to the Settings | Music Folders and add each one separately.
After that, click on the Advanced settings and verify that you have your VIDEO MASK similar - .avi .mpg .mpeg .flv .mp4 .m4v .mkv .mov .wmv .ogv - That is the default settings.

Just to ensure you didn't inadvertently clear that out. I know I did the first time I was adding new formats.

Lastly, No. You don't need a player installed if you have flash. The site uses embedded flash player. It is actually a lot better now with the update than it used to be in the past.

Hope this helps....

The only thing i would add to the post above is to enable the Active transcodings for the video formats you require like avi > flv, mp4 >flv and so on by going to: Settings > Players(scroll to the bottom and put a tick next to the ones you require) then save. You may have to do this for every user you want to stream videos.
Best Regards
