HttpHostConnectException

Postby tripaphonic » Thu May 05, 2011 5:29 am

Hi all. I just moved my media server from a Windows 7 box to an Ubuntu box. The problem is registering the name I paid for a while back. The error below is what I get.

I've edited the subsonic file to use port 80 and 443. It' still loads at localhost:4040 but that should make no difference. I also forwarded port 80 & 443 on my router to the Ubuntu box. What else could I be missing?

I've had this happen once before where the subnet wasn't registered correctly but this problem seems to be different.

Status: tripaphonic.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (HttpHostConnectException)

If it's still loading on 4040, the server is still serving on that port. Is the server still running on the Win machine?

Server on the windows machine has been wiped out when I imaged the box.

Here is the config file as it is currently:::

#
# This is the configuration file for the Subsonic service
# (/etc/init.d/subsonic)
#
# To change the startup parameters of Subsonic, modify
# the SUBSONIC_ARGS variable below.
#
# Type "subsonic --help" on the command line to read an
# explanation of the different options.
#
# For example, to specify that Subsonic should use port 80 (for http)
# and 443 (for https), and use a Java memory heap size of 120 MB, use
# the following:
#
SUBSONIC_ARGS="--port=80 --https-port=443 --max-memory=120"

SUBSONIC_ARGS="--max-memory=300"

The ports are set specifically to 80 and 443. The only thing I have not done is restart the box. I've restarted the service as instructed in the Ubuntu Subsonic installation guide.

I'm going to restart and see if that helps.

OK I just restarted and it still loads in localhost:4040. Is there another place where the port is stored?

Not being an Ubuntu user, I don't have any direct experience with the Ubuntu installation of SS, but in general, I always stay away from 80 & 443 for the port assignments as it usually generates confilicts and is often blocked or monitored by ISP's. In your case, it might just be easier to use 4040 and 440 for the port assignments. I'd first get the http connection up and verified before enabling the SSL connection.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it.

I have another problem now that I think stems from Subsonic servers. When I go to Network > Access your server over the Internet using an easy-to-remember address. It says the following:::

Status: The web address "tripaphonic" is already in use. Please select another.

I've paid for that address and have been using it on the Windows box perfectly fine until I switched to the Ubuntu box. It's like Subsonic thinks it's still in use somewhere when it's just been migrated.

OK. I tested using my public IP address :4040 and it worked instantly. Something is preventing Subsonic from refreshing my IP address with the mask I registered with Subsonic. This has happened to me before. My IP changes and I no longer get to use my address. Pretty lame. How do we fix that?

Once you're licensed you can use any name you like for the server.subsonic.org address. Try changing it, save, then change it back to the original again. I've changed the names on mine several times without any problems.

Usually, the only thing that prevents the domain name migration is if you forgot/messed up to copy the licensing info from "subsonic.properties" or so to the new server. Just like in the various threads in the forum or in the upgrade guide, and has happened to me before too.

How do I "copy" the license? I don't have it as far as I know. My hard drive crashed and I lost most of the files I had downloaded and my mail.

If you cannot retrieve it from your email, you will need to email Sindre and have him locate your reg, and resend the email that contains your key.
