Streaming mp4 over the internet

Postby cga » Tue May 10, 2011 5:52 pm

I just wonder if there is something I can do to improve video streaming over the internet

Streaming video at home from my network works as a dream. I can play movies from subsonic flawlessly

Streaming video from another house I just get lot of buffering, the video doesn't play properly, it keeps stopping all the time

Any video format, avi or mp4

Thanks :D
I love Subsonic

What your maximum connection speed for uploads? try testing it with a speed tester you find via google. like google for "dsl speedd test" or such.

A lot of bufffering usually means the connection is too slow, especially since you can stream locally with no problems.

Buffering can also be caused by transcoding if the CPU can't keep up with the data output.

Jw Player will play mp4 and flv files without the need for transcoding. If you stream mp4 files, turn OFF the transcoding on the server to allow the file to pass directly to JW. This does NOT work with the Android app. The Android app works best with flv files.

When transcoding is turned off, performance is then a function of the connection speed (at both ends) and the graphics capability of the playback device.
