Wanting to move subsonic to a different computer

Postby flammenwurfer » Fri Apr 08, 2011 2:55 pm

I have subsonic installed in ubuntu on my htpc, but I would like to move or just do a fresh install on a different computer that will be a dedicated fileserver. Is there a way to move the current installation? If I were to just uninstall and reinstall, how does it work with reenabling the full version with mobile streaming support, since I have donated?

Just move your /var/subsonic/ directory over to your new server. Youll need to modify directory paths to your media if they are going to be different on your new machine but that should be all it takes.

Do I need to install subsonic on the new server first, then copy /var/subsonic over to the new server? Or just copy the folder and that's it? Where would I modify the paths at? Hopefully that won't be an issue as they should be the same, but who knows.

install a fresh Server on your new computer get it up and running. if you are going to operate the server off of a different port than your last server hold off on setting that up. then just replace a few new folders/files with the old ones

Relevant folder/files from old server on Ubuntu are
    /etc/default/subsonic
    /var/subsonic/db/
    /var/subsonic/playlists/
    /var/subsonic/subsonic.properties

now your new Server looks just like your old one. Adjust music folders and ports as necessary. I would probably handle port forwarding manually to make sure you deleted the old rule if you are use the same port.

I have a volume failing in my server and I want to do a back up of this folder

How do you do that in WHS?

I have two directories

One in my C drive and another one in my program files

I supposed I have to copy the folder in my program files

Is that correct?

Thanks

You can just copy C:\Subsonic directory and paste back after a reinstall. This will save your settings.

I just tried out jaquense's method of moving the relevent folder /files but ran into an issue with "/var/subsonic/db/ ". It gives me this : "/var/subsonic/db: not a regular file". Any idea what's going on? My end goal is to move the user's and passwords from one install to the next.
Thanks

I think those are stored in db\subsonic.script

Ratings are stored in a table called user_rating and comments are in the music_file_info table. The ratings are stored in the subsonic.script file, but the comments are stored in the subsonic.data file.
