Subsonic music folders on Linux

OK, I'm a Linux n00b, but I have managed to get Subsonic installed and working on a VMware VM, as a Linux OS using Ubuntu (mini). Subsonic is now accessible to me and I am able to log into its web page.

Now what I am trying to do is access my music files on my NAS (another Linux box, a Synology DS410) from within Subsonic. This has proven a bit more difficult for me. At the linux command line I am able to use samba to browse all files on my NAS, so obviously there is connectivity between the two. I can also create a mount point on the Subsonic box and use that mount point as my source for "Music Folders" and I do see all my artists/albums, so all is not lost.

However what I would *like* to do is to not have to use the Linux command line to create mount points outside of Subsonic. I would rather use *just* the "Music Folders" in Subsonic to connect to these UNC paths. I believe this was done on the WixyBase distro using a much older version of Subsonic.

Anyway I have tried various forms of the UNC path to the NAS server (front-slash, backslash, quoted, IP only, etc...) and just cant seem to get the right combination. Can anyone tell me what I need to add/configure in Linux to make this possible? So far, Ive installed only the smbclient and smbfs into the Subsonic host OS.

In hopes you were following this message, did you ever get this to work? I am having similar issues. Since no one replied to this post does that mean I (we) are out of luck?

Create a mount point, point it to the UNC path, add it to /etc/fstab (to automount it at boot).

Works flawlessly.

Yes, I (we) appear to be SOL for the exact solution I was hoping for. But in the end it does work, albeit manually which is probably by design in LINUX.

As aTommyC writes, it is VERY true that the solution can be made by editing various LINUX files from the command line. These edits do survive a reboot therefore all is not lost. In fact, for a basic and/or normal setup this is probably preferred. However, I was hoping for a more portable answer so that I didn't always have to go back to the console to make a change and instead be able to make these changes over the web using only the Subsonic configuration page and/or other HTML page(s) in order to increase portability.

In the end, I'm up and running long ago using the roadmap seen at the link below. Perhaps my biggest goof for the manual setup was in not knowing which of my LINUX systems "username" belonged to in all previous examples. (i.e my NAS or my Subsonic box)

If you have any questions or problems with setting this up, PM me.. I have been running subsonic on linux from the get go... I have had 2 servers linked and never had any issues.
