Impossible to use over 3g... download speed<30kb per 5sec

Postby Tesseden » Wed Jun 01, 2011 8:21 pm

Problem Description: Everything seems to work, however, the download speeds over 3g are impossibly slow. After watching the progress for about 5 seconds it downloads less than 30 kb, meaning I'm spending 95% of the time waiting, and 5% of the time listening.
Troubleshooting Steps: I tried limiting the bitrate and enabling/disabling transcoding.
Playback Application and version: Subsonic for android v 2.7
Subsonic Version: 4.4 (build 2169) – February 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_25, Linux (47.4 MB / 77.5 MB)
Hardware Platform: plugbox for pogoplug
Java Memory Limit: (Windows: found in the Subsonic Agent in the taskbar)
Problem Filename: n/a
Output from ffmpeg -i: n/a

Looking at the logs, the first thing I notice is that the time/date on my plugbox is very obviously wrong. But would that make a difference?

Could you run a speed test, on both your 3G phone and your server's Internet connection?

I'm curious if one of those Internet connections may simply just be too slow to stream music?

In response to your question, I wouldn't think the server time being wrong would matter... but why is your server time wrong? Just fix it.

Cheers,

My installation is similar and works fine EXCEPT if I have any sort of transcoding on. I haven't looked into the fix for that yet.

I'm running a dockstar (pogoplug with LESS RAM)

But I am running Debian Lenny on a 2gb USB stick.

It's partition 1.5gb for system 500meg for swap file.

All I have running on it is the OS, Java, and Subsonic, and Lame

It can't keep up when I want it to transcode. When I leave the files alone and they aren't some ridiculous flac/aac they work fine. My MP3 collection is mostly 220kbps or less (now I definitely plan to keep it that way)

The point of my post - it SHOULD be working, I wish I could help more but there is hope is my point. =)

At that rate, I wonder if it might be the CPU that isn't keeping up. Do you know what kind of CPU that has?
