Best way to get subsonic (audio and video) on my TV?

What is the most elegant solution for getting audio and video from subsonic to your TV? I noticed there is a subsonic app for roku but it only appears to support audio and the developer has not written back to me on the possibility of adding video support.

Is there something else out there that makes a good set-top-box type solution?

there is an app for Boxee in creation. Right now it only has audio but video is in the developer's todo list. the forum for Sub-Box is here:

If you have a ps3, or an xbox, you can play the videos/music directly to your tv.
My current setup, I have a ps3 and am running Mediatomb (uPnP server) and it delivers everything I need from my network.

My buddy got a box that streams from the network. I used to have an mvix as well. So as you can see, there are numerous different options available to you at little or no extra cost depending on what you have already.

An awesome application that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is Xbox Media Center (XBMC). It can do audio and video playback, and has a really elegant user interface. It can run on most computer hardware and can even run on an Xbox (original, 360 prevents the modification I think).

SubsonicTV works with Roku. It supports audio and video now. Our focus is on audio but video (MP4) works. We're in beta 003 but launching soon.

XBMC has come a long way from the early days.
It can breath life into some older hardware too.

I guess by elegant I mean I want to be able to sit down and use a remote to play videos and music from subsonic with a nice interface like boxee, roku, or xbmc. I can easily plug my laptop into my TV or remote desktop to my Mac Mini to do it, but that's just not very cool.

My subsonic server is not local so subsonic provides a perfect solution with it's support for adjustable bitrate and everything. Things like mediatomb won't do the trick, although I do have an xbox.

I'm a bit surprised to see the lack of interest in video support - I've been using subsonic for a long time for music but have switched to using it 90% for video now.

So it looks like the options are:

SUB-BOX for Boxee: No video support

XBMC Plugin: "Video appears to work" but is not a focus of development, which worries me. Has anyone tried this one out yet?

SubsonicTV for Roku: Probably the most promising and most mature of the three, but only supports MP4 which I suspect is a hardware limitation so it might be a dead end for heavy video users.

Am I missing anything?

I am playing with the XBMC plugin. I really like it, but I'm having trouble getting it to work with FLAC. Even though I have transcoding enabled - and my Subsonic log reflects the client asking for the transcoding (lame starts and everything looks good), the client on XBMC says it failed to load the file.

Seems FLAC isn't supported yet?

The first release candidate (RC1) for SubsonicTV v1.0 is now available. SubsonicTV for Roku lets you enjoy your music & MP4 video (new!) collection on your TV without uploading to the cloud.

An RC comes after the beta period and before final release. We think we’re done, but with hundreds of users, a variety of configurations, it’s possible we’ve missed something. So if you haven’t tested SubsonicTV yet, now is the time!
