[Solved] Where's the end of my song ?

Postby grimy55 » Fri Jun 03, 2011 2:47 pm

Hi,

I recently get the last Subsonic release on an Ubuntu Server. Some my songs within my library appear truncated in Subsonic. I can play only the first tens seconds of them and, indeed, their duration are indicated shortest that their real size within the player.

Of course, I checked if my files were somehow broken, but I can play them full in another player.

Any idea why ?

A picture explains it better :

You can see the track's durations are inconsistent. Worst of all, when playing a 23 seconds track, for instance, it really stops at 23 seconds ! While the 50 minutes one carry one 50 minutes without any sound...

The same issue is occuring on my Subsonic Android app.

I've just found this problem was recently reported on another thread, but it has not been resolved yet (http://forum.subsonic.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=24810).

I deleting the subsonic database (/etc/default/subsonic), downgraded to 3.9. and rescaned my database. The problem has been solved.

However, If I upgrade from 3.9 to 4.4, the issue comes back ! I smell something's wrong with the last release. And I would want to use it to stream video aswell.

Would someone be of any help, please ?

I think I found the problem. All the bad files were encoded using FHG encoder at 56 kbps. After converting them to wma, the problem is solved.

Would it be possible to correct the compatibility, as there were no problem before Subsonic v.4 ?

All transcoding issues are a bit hard to pinpoint as their are many variables involved. I was having problems with video transcoding keeping up with output until I downloaded a newer version of ffmpeg than what is in the standard Windows install. It improved my video performance dramatically as the newer version can use more than one core for the transcoding and can now utilize my quad core cpu.

Now, strangely, I have a new issue with some ogg files that used to play fine with my ogg > mp3 settings for the desktop. I have one album that used to play fine that just won't go now and another album that used to play fine and still does. Both albums were transcoded with the same software, so where is the difference? Even stranger, I only upgraded one of my SS instances to the newer ffmpeg and I am seeing the same issue on all 3 of my SS installs! So what disabled one album and not the other? Got me...
