IS there a limitation with .m3u playlists?

Postby jared68 » Sat Jun 04, 2011 4:06 pm

Hello, I was wondering if there is some sort of limitation or specific steps i need to take to ensure m3u playlists are played in Subsonic.

I have several that I have created. They seem to load but when they do, the songs are not shown in the player. I am trying to use the built in player. I also tested with the Sub Air applications and experienced the same issue. So this made me wonder if there were some sort of limitation, etc...

I am able to load the playlists using vlc so I believe they are not corrupt. After creating these playlists, do I need to rebuild the search index?

Thank you for your help.

Your playlists need to be in a different folder than your music. By default it's /var/playlists on Linux os'es, dunno about Windows. You can get that folder path from your General tab in Settings on Subsonic.

Your playlists should also have direct paths to the music so Subsonic can actually play it.

eg.
C:\Users\Me\Music\Some Artist\Some Song.mp3
or /home/me/music/Some Artist/Some Song.mp3 on unix\linux.

If you want to be able to play playlists out of your music folders directly, I don't think there's a really good way to do that in Subsonic at this time.

Cheers,

Thanks for the response.

I have found when I add a song to my generated playlists they will play.

What I was hoping to do was export playlists from Media monkey to the folder I have setup for my subsonic playlists. I do have them in different directories than my music.

Try editing your playlist file in a text editor, like Notepad. See if the directory paths to the music files look right. If they don't you can do a Find\Replace All to correct the paths.
