Many thanks for the "long-winded" reply. We'll try the Fedora installer for now to get our feet wet.

Thanks for the additional feedback.

My son just finished his Sophmore yaer in high school. My goal is to expose him to a realistic environment that he would most likely encounter at a leading IT University. He already has exceptional Windows skills, so I would now like him to prepare for what he is likely to encounter at the University level. Having toured quite a few campuses over the past year for my daughter, we realized that he will need proficiency with Unix/Linix operating systems.

So the criteria isn't so much the individual characteristics of each OS as much as the likleyhood that whichever OS we introduce onto our network, it will be a good learning platform that will be a close fit with what is most commonly used in the University setting.

We have sufficient resources in house that it is also very easy for us to install more than one instance as we have a lot of capacity for virtual machine and even spare boxes that are not currently in use.

Great food for thought...

Ill post back as we start to make some progress on installation and testing.
