subsonic is excruciatingly slow

Postby brian417 » Fri Jun 17, 2011 4:44 pm

I get constant network error's and retries. I noticed that it works a little better if I have fewer albums inside a folder so I went in and created multiple group folders IE: Beatles A-D Beatles E-G etc. this was a lot of work with 200 Gb of music and I still have problems with network error's and buffering. I should say that this happens in the subsonic android app. in the web UI I don't get the network error's but it is still unacceptably slow.

I should also mention that my music folders are linked to a synology nas. I also installed the standalone package directly on diskstation and ran it as a service. this works but it is even slower. I figured something was amiss in my settings or whatnot and maybe it is but I since discovered Audiogalaxy and this works flawlessly. too bad I made a donation to subsonic because whatever the problem is I can't help but blame the software when audiogalaxy works so well. I can't use subsonic and feel like I just threw my money away. live and learn I guess.

Yeah, it must be Subsonic.

See how poorly it runs on my server below.

You might want to look at the Harry Potte HD Trailer in the video folder. Runs terrible.

yeah I get your sarcasm and I guess it could run just as well for me as you claim it does for you but after more than three weeks of trying it is still unusable for me, so yeah, when I install audiogalaxy and it runs fast and smooth right out of the box I'd say they are doing something right.

Oh yes... lets try to compare audiogalaxy to subsonic.

That is like comparing iTunes with Zune.

Try to understand what each product is before you try to compare them, please.

Not to mention that this is the "HELP" section of the forum. it's one thing to ask for help, it's quite another to bash a product that has many happy users just because you don't know how to use it. There's no doubt that Subsonic takes a higher than average skill level to set up, but that's a small price to pay for the power and flexibility that the product offers.

I'm more than happy to assist anyone who has trouble getting their installation of Subsonic working. I'm just not too thrilled when someone has nothing but negative things to say because they don't have the expertise or patience needed to use the software.

Just my opinion, and as usual, probably not popular or "politically correct."

Too bad.

aren't those 2 the same? They both organize your music, and hey, they both run like crap on windows!
