Thats sounds great!

I'd really like to see sharing of playlists. Since right now i can only share based on how i have the music arranged. If it's not in one folder i can't share them together.

Is it a bug that shares don't continue playing? You have to keep clicking to hear another track.

I have one small request. Playlist for videos.

Thank you very much

Thanks for the reply. Must this be turned on for users other than an Admin in order for the "Shared Media" section to appear in 'Settings'? Because I have "User is allow to share..." turned on for myself and yet I see no where for me to administrate what has been shared.

That's really what I was trying to get at.

It just adds the share options once an album is selected int the upper window. Look at the screenshot above. Ratings stars, Clear rating redo arrow, facebook, twitter, Share

you don't see the fb, Twitter, or Share option when it's not activated for the user.

Okay, so I got the FB, Twitter, or Share option now. There was some mention of being able to delete a share. Do you happen to know where I might find that option?

Also I thought when shared it is suppose to show our subsonic.org domain and not the IP addy directly?

I don't know anything about deleting a share. I really don't know a great deal about the inner workings of this fearture myself yet, which is one of the reasons I haven't started using it. I too am reluctant to just throw out anything onto the net that I don't understand or know how to control. Once a link is generated and is thrown out there, what control do I have over it? I don't know the answer.

As for the subsonic.org address vs. the ip address, do not be concerned. Anyone who has your subsonic address will see your public ip address. That's unavoidable. Any public ip is easy to determine once you go to any site as you can do a DNS lookup for any site you visit to get it's ip.

The servername.subsonic.org does not use DNS, it uses http redirection to send users to your site. Once at your site the address bar in the window will display the ip address. It's not a big deal. Use a stout admin password and you should not have any security issues.

When sharing a video the player has no way to switch bandwidth (higher/lower) or option to jump to specific time in video. Just wondering if its on my end since video looks really pixelated on shares

Video on Subsonic is an art unto itself with so many variables involved it's difficult to know exactly where to start.

First, video takes processing power and good bandwidth on both ends. Sending video to JW Player in a native format flv or mp4 without transcoding significantly improves performance and reduces cpu load on the server.

There are also variations in what's available in a video as far as seeking and bitrate that can largely be a function of how the source video was created. I've been able to get good results on my site, but only at the cost of months of reading, researching, and experimenting. There is no magic bullet answer with video, you have to understand the capability of your hardware, software, and your connection speed. You can see the results I get on my platform at the link on the bottom. My server is a quad core 2.83GHz Xeon with 8GB ram running Subsonic in a 2GB Virtual machine running WHS 2011 on a FIOS 35/35 internet connection with tons of painstaking tweaks to ffmpeg, JW Player, and the transcoding settings to get it all to work the way I want it to.

If you don't have as much CPU horsepower or sufficient upload bandwidth, you will most likely not achieve the same results. Do not despair though, you can tailor your content to work well with your platform no matter what you use. It may just involve encoding at lower resolution/bitrates to get good throughput. Sometimes it's just hitting on the right transcoding settings, or accepting that your better off bypassing the transcode route altogether and encode everything in mp4 or flv. There are tons of options to getting the results you want but you have to be realistic when evaluating the capabilities of your platform

HTH

Let me know if you have specific concerns that I can help you with.

That's what I'm starting to think. I'll patiently awake the next version push. Until then I think I'll keep the video sharing to a minimum.

Perhaps I've got something misconfigured but is it possible to have Subsonic ignore A, The, etc. at the beginning of band names while listing them in the left panel? So that A_Perfect_Circle shows up under P and not A?

Just add a to the list of Articles to ignore on the Settings/General screen.

I've tried that. It does nothing. Perhaps it doesn't count underscores as delimiters while parsing?

That's probably the case. Because the a doesn't stand alone, it isn't recognized as a defined article. You could try removing the underscores to confirm.

Yup. So that's a feature request. Underscores should be treated like spaces for indexing. Or allow the values to be prefixes too. So A_ would work for A_Perfect_Circle.

As http://foo.subsonic.org has never worked for me, always got: foo.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

I want to use my own domain and not http://foo.subsonic.org for the sharing.

Any way that i can do this, iv had a dig about but can't fined a way to use my own domain.
