Cant delete incorrect podcast url

Postby Tekzel » Fri Aug 01, 2008 10:10 pm

Hi Sindre, I was trying to add a podcast today and had the wrong URL, it added them but generates errors for them:

First one: Error org.jdom.input.JDOMParseException: Error on line 125: Open quote is expected for attribute "{1}"...

Second one: Error java.net.MalformedURLException: no protocol: japancast.net/?feed=rss

As for the errors themselves, I know WHY I am getting them (the third time was the charm) but I am posting the errors in case they indicate why I can't delete the entries. I check the boxes, click "delete selected", a box pops up asking if I want to delete them, I click yes and the box goes away. Thats it, they are still there, even after refreshing. I even updated from 3.4 to 3.5b1 to see if that would let me delete them, no go. I don't know if i can delete a legitimate podcast, as I don't want to delete any of mine. haha.

Another poblem I have, but much more minor, is when I go to the podcast list, as it is filling in at a certain point in the list (the same one every time) all the links on the page go from the light blue color to a dark blue. Its wierd looking and makes it hard to see the number next to the name since I use the Berants Sea theme. I can send you a screen shot if you would like.

Edit: Ok, I have stepped in it now! I added the same podcast twice, on accident, and have found that in fact I can't delete any of them. Help! :)

Edit2: Ok, after doing some splunking around the forum I was able to find out about db.view, after some c:\subsonic\db\subsonic.log parsing I was able to glean enough of the schema to figure out what tables the channel and episodes are stored and use sql statements (thank goodness I have a good understanding of sql!) to delete the invalid and duplicate entries I created. I still don't know what is causing the listing to go all crazy while it is listing the podcasts out (the thing with the links changing color about half way). I think that might be why I can't delete podcasts using the page, I think the CSS is probably going wacky and also something is up with the javascript at the same time. I don't know, its wierd. If you have any ideas, I am all ears. I suspect the problem is in the database itself.

I guess Sindre is on vacation :)

I hope Sindre sees this soon, this thing is driving me mad since I have yet to find a podcast aggregator that I like better than the one in Subsonic. I can't delete old episodes or anything, without doing it with SQL commands in db.view. Anyway, here is a couple of screenshots to illustrate what I said above.

This shot shows what I see right after pressing the podcast icon, and for a second or two, I had to snap the shot really fast:

This was taken seconds later, all the links switched from the normal light blue to dark blue. I can expand podcast names and show the episodes, but that is it. I can't use the links at the bottom to delete episodes or podcasts. If I try to, the dialog comes up asking if I am sure, then goes away but nothing happens, and whatever boxes I had selected are still selected.

I hate to do it, but I am considering doing a wipe of my podcast_channel and podcast_episode tables and starting from scratch. Sindre, if you have any suggestions I can try before that I would be very grateful.

Hi Tekzel, sorry for the late reply.

I'm not sure what's going on, but it looks like a browser/css/javascript problem to me. I've tried to reproduce it, but I can't (I've tried Opera 9.5, Firefox 3.0.1 and IE 7.0).

What browser are you using?

Hi Sindre, thanks for the reply! It does it both on IE7 and FF3, on two different machines (work and home) and, it did it on v3.4 and on the current 3.5 beta 1 (which I installed hoping to fix it).

And the Podcast URL you added was "japancast.net/?feed=rss" ?

Initially, yes. I'm not sure if that was what caused it (if so thats a problem, an incorrect URL shouldnt break it) but I doubt it. I was able to remove the invalid entry using db.view and sql statements. But the issue above still happens. I have since added the correct URL for that feed and another as well. I still can't use any of the controls on the podcast display, and it only affects the podcast section. I can expand the list, and collapse it, but none of the other controls work (delete podcast, etc). They act like they do, with the confirmation box, but nothing happens when I press OK.

I don't know, but maybe there is some weird html in the descriptions of some of the podcast channels/episodes.

If you like, you can send me your list of podcast urls, and I'll try to reproduce.

Thanks,
Sindre

Just wanted to post a note that I fixed the issue. I deleted all the podcast_episode descriptions and that did it. I wish I knew what specifically the offending character or characters were so maybe you can filter it out going forward, but no way for me to know now. You could always try to reproduce it with the list above if you wanted to (if you haven't already). It was actually your comment about the weird html that made me think to try deleting all the episode descriptions, as I had already tried all the channel descriptions with no luck. Thanks again.

Ok, thanks for letting us know.

I haven't had time to look into this yet, unfortunately.
