Android Video error - not playing

Postby Buksh » Mon Jul 18, 2011 5:37 pm

Hi

i really like the idea of subsonic, i have tried playing the videos through the web browser however i am unable to play videos on any android device ive tried (only two)

mine is an x10 and my dads is a motorola DEFY, i dont think either can play flv.. is this going to be the problem? any advice would be great, if this works i am definitly going to donate to use the video feature.

thanks

If it helps i am getting the error : Prepare failed.: status=0x1 (IOException)

I know this is flagged up in a few places, but i've tried everything and it doesnt work still?

any advice at all would be great? Music plays fine, videos dont at all.

Well, I am sure since you provided all the necessary info for people to help you troubleshoot, I am suprised this thread isn't flooded with people knowing exactly what you have set up and why it isn't working.

If you would like help with your issue, please provide the following so we may better help you....

<-------------------------Subsonic Help Request---------------------->
Problem Description: (A clear description of the problem including any error messages that you received in your playback application)
Troubleshooting Steps: (A list of the steps you have taken to try to solve this problem yourself)
Playback Application and version: (The end application that you are using to stream from Subsonic)
Subsonic Version: (copy/paste from the "About" screen in the Subsonic Web Interface)
Server Version: (copy/paste from the "About" screen in the Subsonic Web Interface)
Hardware Platform: (Windows, Mac, Linux, NAS Model, etc... Invclude version if applicable)
Java Memory Limit: (Windows: found in the Subsonic Agent in the taskbar)
Problem Filename: (If you are having difficulty with a particular file, please include it's name)
Output from ffmpeg -i: (If you open a command prompt and type 'ffmpeg -i <filename>' what is the output? Ideally put this in a "code" block)
Last ten log file lines: (The last ten or so lines copied and pasted from the About screen in the Subsonic Web Interface. Ideally these will be in a CODE block as well.)
<-------------------------Subsonic Help Request---------------------->

Since you are referring to a mobile device, please also provide the version of OS your device is using as well. Also, anything else that you deem necessary...

Thanks
Aethies

Hi Aethies,

Thanks for your reply, i thought it was a common error so didnt require the usual. As requested :

<-------------------------Subsonic Help Request---------------------->
Problem Description: Phone displays error : Prepare failed.: status=0x1 (IOException) when trying to play any video files
Troubleshooting Steps: I have tried this on 2 mobile devices, one motorola DEFY and on SE x10. i have tried inticking the transcoding for MP4 files incase it was an issue with my phone not being able to play flv, as my phone can play MP4. I have tried downloading a smaller video to test with in case my phone was having a problem buffering or displaying a partially downloaded file. my phone browser doesnt support flash (although ive tried a "hack" to install flash on my phone but not sure this worked) i have tried it over 2 different wireless connections and my network just incase this was an issue. ive tried renaming a file to just "test" in case it was invalid characters in the filename or "tags"
Playback Application and version: Subsonic android app, on an SE x10, model number x10i,firmware version 2.1-update1, basband version 2.1.54
Subsonic Version: 4.4 (build 2172) – February 6, 2011
Server Version: jetty-6.1.x, java 1.6.0_26, Windows 7 (32.8 MB / 81.6 MB)
Hardware Platform: Windows 7 64bit
Java Memory Limit: 100mb
Problem Filename: Any video files
Output from ffmpeg -i: Ok, this shows as invalid filename, maybe this is the problem? i made sure that its in c:\subsonic\transcode. as i originally installed this on my d:\ drive as windows is on my C:\ SSD

Unfortunately, flash is required. If I remember right, android 2.2+ is the only version that supports flash. Anything less, does not have it.

I could be wrong depending on the phone, but if you have flash installed, please let me know. Cause the player switches to a website that streams it via flash.

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Wasn't able to get on the forums for a couple days..

Hi no problem thansk for your reply,

the android app actually allowed playback from with the app rather than a web browser! however....and im shocked at its prefect timing... 2.3 is available for my phone! :D so i will upgrade to gingerbread tonight and i will test again :)

Ok so as usual SE delayed the gingerbread release... and me being impatient didnt want to wait. so i managed to flash my phone with the latest version of gingerbread... i had to download the subsonic app again and was upset to find it was giving the exact same error...

HOWEVER...my browser is now flash enabled.. and the videos work fine within the phones web browser... but video doesnt work within the app.

Just to let anyone know who might be interested, it would appear theres a problem with the app..
