my external IP changed and subsonic do not update it

Postby avestruz » Sun Jun 26, 2011 9:35 am

Hi,

Subsonic was working fine in both my network and remotely on the web. Restarted router and, IP changed, so when trying to connect remotely with my domain name- i.e.http://myserver.subsonic.org- i can see subsonic is redirecting me to old IP:port. Anyway i manage to get my actual ip even when not at home and connect successfully.

Any idea why is subsonic not getting my new ip?

Just installed few days ago so domain still not expired...anyway not gonna let it expire...Subsonic deserves donationS :D

Go to Settings/Network and hit Save. That should retransmit your ip to the SS redirection server.

I did it but still can see how i'm redirected to an old ip and finally can't connect.
After saving settings still appearing the message of status: xxxxx.subsonic.org is registered, but could not connect to it. (ConnectTimeoutException)

More details....
The ip that my router shows is the same that canyouseeme.org shows and is the one that works to connect as http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:port but the site whatsmyip.org shows me an ip totally different and the same -except for the last group of figures- as the one subsonic is tryin to redirect me every time.
So...is it the router that is messing up? how to solve this

Didn't mention subsonic is installed in hp mediasmart server through rdc

I'm a bit unclear on some of the details, but first WHS uses 80 and 443 for its remote website, so be sure not to use either for Subsonic. i use 808X and 45X for SS ports.

It is very strange that different services would report different ip address. When you say "except for the last group of numbers" do you mean the port number or the last section of the ip address?

Have you checked to make sure that the INTERNAL ip address of the server is the same?

I'm aware of ports used by whs so i use 196x and 43x (not443 for sure)
my server has static ip so no way that internal ip changes.
by the las group of numbers i mean last section of ip
canyouseeme.org: 92.96.80.xxx CORRECT, and this IP:PORT i do connect
whatsmyip.org: 195.229.237.36 WRONG
whatismyipaddress.com: 195.229.235.43 WRONG
mydomain.subsonic.org is trying to connect on: 195.229.235.39 WRONG

Something goes wrong in my router or-hopefully not-my ISP is playing around

That makes no sense at all! Your getting 4 different external ip addresses :!:

Can you find the external ip address reported in your router. I can't imagine any ISP changing you ip address that often. My external IP has only changed twice in 20 years, once with Time Warner and once with Verizon.

Getting 4 different reported addresses in one or two days just doesn't seem likely. You might consider rebooting the router. I also know that using different port numbers shouldn't cause problems, but I have once before helped get up and running by having him switch the http port to the 808X range. It might be worth a try.

EDIT: Wireless routers do tend to get flakey somewhere around 1 - 2 yrs of heavy use. Most of them run too hot and start to break down, usually seen first by dropped connection during video streaming. If you've seen anything like that, your router could very well be going belly up.

i know...makes no sense at all !!!!
router is 6 months old. I guess can consider it as new :-)
The point is tha external ip i find in router is working and, your right, it's not changing otherwise i reboot but...why the hell my router is sending a different ip to some pages or, in this case to ss. Sine isp is giving dinamic ip i have no-ip installed in server and this is working!! I mean, its updating my ip with no problems.

Anyway gonna try your tips and let you know. Btw, thanks for your support ;-)

i checked your pm and yes, could be, but all these ip's are wrong. They're not the real external ip.
And i repeat, why other programs- dns service providers like "no-ip" -keep my real ip up and running?
tried what GJ51 suggested and moved to ports 808x but same result
if no other ideas offered i will reset router and if not successful will try with spare router i have(long and hard work but....) :?

Is there a way to make subsonic do that automatically, say every hour or so?
In germany you usually do get dynamic ips which change every 24 hours. Since it is so easy in subsonic to refresh the ip to the xyz.subsonic adress, I would like to avoid having to run another program like dyndns.

Check your logs..IIRC SS automagically does this every overnight. (but I admit I haven't checked in several of the latest versions...)
