what am I missing?

Postby ulao » Wed Jul 27, 2011 8:47 pm

Well I have to say the install and config was really easy. All of my folder were laid out just as subsonic wanted and I can access my music from my phone! Great job team...

now here is where I get confused. How do I set up the lists on the android app?
Recently added: is this for new albums, why is it empty ( is that the default after config )?
Random: Says "no media found" Guessing this is set up in the config on the server. I logged in and when to more and I see this Create random playlist with. So I tried a few drop downs and hit ok. The screen flashes white and nothing has changed? Should something have happened?
Top rated Says "no media found"

I also tried out the gadget for windows7 and its just bank, should something be there? I read something about the fact that is the gadget will not show the browsable folders. Guessing it only see playlists?

So naturally I amused I didnt complete the setup, well the very detail tutorial highlights all the steps that I figure out on my own. It talks nothing of random or top rated. Did I miss a big step here?

FYI: as stated I can access the music from android via browsing the folders. All works fine, its just I can not use the "bells and whistles" so to speak. Are there any tutorials on how to set this us (i.e random play lists );

make sure that the music folder you point to is a root folder (IE, there are more folders after that initial folder, C:\music\ then in there you have more folders, and not just C:\music and all your mp3 files are in that folder)

Whoa, I swear there was more to this post a second ago? ;) Yes this is the case. That was illustrated in the tut I read. that just happens to be the way I do things.

[root]no files
-[artist 1] only an image
--[album1] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album2] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album3] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album4] image and mp3's / m3u
-[artist 2] only an image
--[album1] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album2] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album3] image and mp3's / m3u
--[album4] image and mp3's / m3u

etc.

There was, but I completely miss-understood your problem, most likely a result from only reading 25% of the post...*doh*

I thought you where asking about setting up a new user.

One more thing you could check out is hit up your server, go to settings > search > then update search index now.

You can also read your log file in your subsonic install directory, you can verify that its scanning files there.

it is strange if you can see/play the files from a phone but not through the server.

Ah, I here ya!

Yes I had done the "update search index now" and that was a big help. I also saw that in the tut. Any idea were linux keeps the logs? guessing in var/log I will have to look.

but not through the server
No that is not the issue. I think you got that from the gadget part. My REAL issue is the android app. I made some changes to the first post to make it more clear.

okay gotcha. first make sure that if you set up a second account for your android that the user has the ability to create and delete playlists. (if you are loging in as admin thats already enabled)

Now brows some of your music and select some songs, if you want add some more songs from other albums by selecting the songs then hitting play last. once your done making a list, get back so you have the 5 icons on the bottom screen, hit the right most icon (record player) then hit your android option key (four squares on far left on my driod) then select save playlist.

This can also be done from the subsonic server.
Also make sure you specify where to save your playlists in settings >> general

- check.

Going to try this out on the android, could you also state how this is done on the server? Will report back with result from the android.

Update, my issue was ( drum role ),,, The default location for playlists was /var/playlists well there was no folder by that name there? Silly... so I created one. Now it saves playlists.

but still get "no media found" for recently added, random, top rated. Still like to know how to uses these options.

Glad we got one of the issues solved. to create playlists from the server, keep hitting add music, then when happy, on the bottom part of the screen, pull down the drop down menu and select save under playlist, that should take you to a screen to name it and then store it in the location you specified.

Unfortunately I don't think I can keep helping ya as I'm on W7, and currently don't have any distro's installed to be able to run through the same steps as you.
